Zechariah 7:13 Meaning and Commentary

Zechariah 7:13

Therefore it is come to pass, [that] as he cried
The Lord by the former prophets called them to repentance and obedience: and they would not hear;
his words, nor obey his voice: so they cried:
when they were besieged in Jerusalem, and were carried captive into Babylon: and I would not hear, saith the Lord of hosts;
so as to deliver them out of the hands of their enemies; see ( Proverbs 1:24-28 ) .

Zechariah 7:13 In-Context

11 But they refused to pay attention and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.
12 They made their hearts diamond-hard lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts.
13 ā€œAs I called, and they would not hear, so they called, and I would not hear, ā€ says the Lord of hosts,
14 ā€œand I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations that they had not known. Thus the land they left was desolate, so that no one went to and fro, and the pleasant land was made desolate. ā€
