5 Io me ne andrò a grandi, e parlerò con loro; perciocchè essi conoscono la via del Signore, la Legge dell’Iddio loro; ma essi tutti quanti hanno spezzato il giogo, hanno rotti i legami.

Jeremiah 5:5

I will get me unto the great men, and speak unto them
The princes, nobles, and judges, the elders of the people, the scribes and doctors of the law: for they have known the way of the Lord, and the judgment of their God;
it might be reasonably expected that they had, having had a good education, and being at leisure from worldly business to attend to the law, and the knowledge of it, and whatsoever God had revealed in his word, both in a way of doctrine and duty: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds;
the yoke of the law, and the bonds of his precepts, with which they were bound; these they broke off from them, and would not be obliged and restrained by them, but transgressed and rejected them.

3 O Signore, non sono gli occhi tuoi volti verso la lealtà: tu li hai percossi, e non è lor doluto; tu li hai consumati, ed han ricusato di ricevere correzione; hanno indurata la faccia loro, più che un sasso; hanno rifiutato di convertirsi.

4 Or io diceva: Questi son solo i miseri; sono insensati; perciocchè non conoscono la via del Signore, la Legge dell’Iddio loro.

6 Perciò il leone della selva li ha percossi, il lupo del vespro li ha deserti, il pardo sta in guato presso alle lor città; chiunque ne uscirà sarà lacerato; perciocchè i lor misfatti sono moltiplicati, le lor ribellioni si son rinforzate.

7 Come ti perdonerei io questo? i tuoi figliuoli mi hanno lasciato, ed han giurato per quelli che non sono dii; ed avendoli io satollati, han commesso adulterio; e si sono adunati a schiere in casa della meretrice.
