4 Ecco, io vi ho spartito a sorte, per eredità, secondo le vostre tribù, il paese di queste genti che restano, insieme col paese di tutte quelle che io ho sterminate, cioè dal Giordano, infino al mar grande, verso il Ponente

Joshua 23:4

Behold, I have divided to you by lot these nations that
remain
Who are unsubdued, not yet conquered, as well as those that are

to be an inheritance for your tribes;
to be possessed by them and their children for ever:

from Jordan, with all the nations I have cut off, even unto the great
sea westward;
the phrase, "with all the nations I have cut off", is to be read in connection with "those nations that remain"; both those that were cut off by the sword of Joshua, and those that remained unconquered, being divided by lot to the tribes of Israel; and which reached from Jordan eastward, where Joshua and Israel entered into the land, to the Mediterranean sea, called the great sea in comparison of little ones in Canaan, as the Dead sea, and the sea of Tiberias; and which great sea lay west to the land of Israel, or where the sun sets, as the phrase in the Hebrew text is.

2 chiamò tutto Israele, gli Anziani, e i Capi, e i Giudici, e gli Ufficiali di esso, e disse loro: Io sono omai vecchio ed attempato;

3 e voi avete veduto tutto ciò che il Signore Iddio vostro ha fatto a tutte queste genti per cagion vostra; conciossiachè il Signore Iddio vostro sia quel che ha combattuto per voi.

4 Ecco, io vi ho spartito a sorte, per eredità, secondo le vostre tribù, il paese di queste genti che restano, insieme col paese di tutte quelle che io ho sterminate, cioè dal Giordano, infino al mar grande, verso il Ponente

5 E il Signore Iddio vostro disperderà quelle dal vostro cospetto, e le scaccerà d’innanzi a voi; e voi possederete il lor paese, come il Signore Iddio vostro ve ne ha parlato.

6 Perciò, fortificatevi vie più, per osservare, e per fare tutto quello che è scritto nel Libro della Legge di Mosè; acciocchè non ve ne rivolgiate nè a destra nè a sinistra;
