13 e questi sono gli otri del vino, i quali noi empiemmo tutti nuovi; ed ecco, sono schiantati; e questi nostri vestimenti, e i nostri calzamenti, si son logorati per lo molto lungo viaggio.

Joshua 9:13

And these bottles of wine, which we filled, [were] new
That is, on the day they came out on their journey:

and, behold, they be rent;
which were owing to the long use that had been made of them, as they pretended:

and these our garments, and our shoes, are become old by reason of the
very long journey:
quite worn out through length of time and tedious travels. Isidore of Pelusium ^F17 thinks these Gibeonites were Cappadocians, of whom he gives a shocking character, and particularly that they were prone to lying and deceit; but his reason for it, that they were of the Philistines, will not hold good.

11 E i nostri Anziani, e tutti gli abitanti del nostro paese, ci hanno detto: Prendete in mano della provvisione per lo viaggio, e andate incontro a coloro, e dite loro: Noi siamo vostri servitori; fate dunque patto con noi.

12 Quest’è il nostro pane; noi lo prendemmo caldo dalle case nostre per nostra provvisione, nel giorno che partimmo per venire a voi; ma ora, ecco egli è secco, ed è diventato mucido;

13 e questi sono gli otri del vino, i quali noi empiemmo tutti nuovi; ed ecco, sono schiantati; e questi nostri vestimenti, e i nostri calzamenti, si son logorati per lo molto lungo viaggio.

14 E que’ personaggi presero della lor provvisione, e non domandarono la bocca del Signore.

15 E Giosuè fece pace con loro, e patteggiò con loro, che li lascerebbe vivere; e i principali della raunanza lo giurarono loro.
