Psalms 38:18

For I will declare mine iniquity
Either to men, to ease his mind, justify God in his proceedings with him, and for their caution and admonition: or rather to God, against whom he had sinned, and who only could pardon him; with a view to which he was determined to make a free and open confession of it before him:

I will be sorry for my sin,
or "careful" ^F16 about it; that is, how he committed it for the future: true repentance for sin produces a carefulness to abstain from all appearance of it; see ( 2 Corinthians 7:10 2 Corinthians 7:11 ) .

16 Perciocchè io ho detto: Fa’ che non si rallegrino di me; Quando il mio piè vacilla, essi s’innalzano contro a me.

17 Mentre son tutto presto a cadere, E la mia doglia è davanti a me del continuo;

18 Mentre io dichiaro la mia iniquità, E sono angosciato per lo mio peccato;

19 I miei nemici vivono, e si fortificano; E quelli che mi odiano a torto s’ingrandiscono.

20 Quelli, dico, che mi rendono mal per bene; Che mi sono avversari, in iscambio di ciò che ho loro procacciato del bene.
