Psalms 35:23

23 Wake up, and rise to my defense. Plead my case, O my God and my Lord.

Psalms 35:23 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 35:23

Stir up thyself and awake
Who seemed to be asleep in the apprehensions of the psalmist, and to take no notice of his distresses, and the insults of his enemies; see ( Psalms 44:23 ) ; he adds,

to my judgment, [even] to my cause;
that is, to plead it and maintain it, and avenge him of his enemies, as in ( Psalms 35:1 ) ; making use of his covenant interest in him as a plea for it to engage him to do it, saying,

my God, and my Lord;
see ( Psalms 22:1 ) .

Psalms 35:23 In-Context

21 They open their big mouths and say about me, "Aha! Aha! Our own eyes have seen it."
22 You have seen it, O LORD. Do not remain silent. O Lord, do not be so far away from me.
23 Wake up, and rise to my defense. Plead my case, O my God and my Lord.
24 Judge me by your righteousness, O LORD my God. Do not let them gloat over me
25 or think, "Aha, just what we wanted!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up."
