Psalms 35:26

26 Let those who gloat over my downfall be thoroughly put to shame and confused. Let those who promote themselves at my expense be clothed with shame and disgrace.

Psalms 35:26 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 35:26

Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together
In a body, as one man; as they gathered together against him, ( Psalms 35:15 ) ; so he entreats they might together be brought to shame and confusion, they not being able to execute their designs; their schemes being broken, their counsels defeated, and they exposed to contempt;

that rejoice at mine hurt;
the same with his adversity, or halting, ( Psalms 35:15 ) ;

let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify [themselves]
against me;
let them be covered with it, as a man is with a garment; who magnified themselves, opened their mouths in great swelling words of vanity against him, vaunted and bragged over him, as in their power, and at their will.

Psalms 35:26 In-Context

24 Judge me by your righteousness, O LORD my God. Do not let them gloat over me
25 or think, "Aha, just what we wanted!" Do not let them say, "We have swallowed him up."
26 Let those who gloat over my downfall be thoroughly put to shame and confused. Let those who promote themselves at my expense be clothed with shame and disgrace.
27 Let those who are happy when I am declared innocent joyfully sing and rejoice. Let them continually say, "The LORD is great. He is happy when his servant has peace."
28 Then my tongue will tell about your righteousness, about your praise all day long.
