2 Chronicles 31:18 Meaning and Commentary

2 Chronicles 31:18

And to the genealogy of all their little ones, their wives,
and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation
These were all genealogized and registered, wives and children, sons and daughters, whether small or grown up; and a portion was distributed to them according to their number, greater or lesser:

for in their set office they sanctified themselves in holiness;
which is to be understood either of the overseers, who, in their set office, faithfully distributed the holy things to the persons before described; or else to the priests, and Levites, to whom, and to whose families, the distribution was made, because they wholly devoted themselves to the holy service of God.

2 Chronicles 31:18 In-Context

16 besides those who were reckoned by genealogy of males, from three years old and upward, even everyone who entered into the house of the LORD, as the duty of every day required, for their service in their offices according to their courses;
17 and those who were reckoned by genealogy of the Kohanim by their fathers' houses, and the Levites from twenty years old and upward, in their offices by their courses;
18 and those who were reckoned by genealogy of all their little ones, their wives, and their sons, and their daughters, through all the congregation: for in their office of trust they sanctified themselves in holiness.
19 Also for the sons of Aharon the Kohanim, who were in the fields of the suburbs of their cities, in every city, there were men who were mentioned by name, to give portions to all the males among the Kohanim, and to all who were reckoned by genealogy among the Levites.
20 Thus did Hizkiyahu throughout all Yehudah; and he worked that which was good and right and faithful before the LORD his God.
