Mark 6:23 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 6:23

And he sware unto her
He added an oath to what he had before said, the more to confirm it, and to encourage her in her request, and which he repeated in stronger language:

whatsoever thou shalt ask of me, I will give it thee, unto the half
of my kingdom; (See Gill on Matthew 14:7).

Mark 6:23 In-Context

21 When a convenient day had come, that Herod on his birthday made a supper for his lords, and the high captains, and the chief men of the Galil;
22 and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced, she pleased Herod and those reclining with him. The king said to the young lady, "Ask me whatever you want, and I will give it to you."
23 He swore to her, "Whatever you shall ask of me, I will give you, up to half of my kingdom."
24 She went out, and said to her mother, "What shall I ask?" She said, "The head of Yochanan the immerser."
25 She came in immediately with haste to the king, and asked, "I want you to give me right now the head of Yochanan the immerser on a platter."
