1 Envió también Ezequías por todo Israel y Judá, y escribió letras a Efraín y Manasés, que vinieran a Jerusalén a la Casa del SEÑOR, para hacer la pascua al SEÑOR Dios de Israel

2 Y el rey tomó consejo con sus príncipes, y con toda la congregación en Jerusalén, para hacer la pascua en el mes segundo

3 Porque entonces no la podían hacer, por cuanto no había plenitud de sacerdotes santificados, ni el pueblo estaba junto en Jerusalén

4 Esto agradó al rey y a toda la multitud

5 Y determinaron hacer pasar pregón por todo Israel, desde Beerseba hasta Dan, para que vinieran a hacer la pascua al SEÑOR Dios de Israel en Jerusalén; porque en mucho tiempo no la habían hecho como está escrito

6 Fueron, pues, correos con letras de la mano del rey y de sus príncipes por todo Israel y Judá, como el rey lo había mandado, y decían: Hijos de Israel, volveos al SEÑOR el Dios de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Israel, y él se volverá al remanente que han escapado de la mano de los reyes de Asiria

7 No seáis como vuestros padres y como vuestros hermanos, que se rebelaron contra el SEÑOR Dios de sus padres, y él los entregó a desolación, como vosotros veis

8 Por tanto no endurezcáis vuestra cerviz como vuestros padres; dad la mano al SEÑOR, y venid a su santuario, el cual él ha santificado para siempre; y servid al SEÑOR vuestro Dios, y la ira de su furor se apartará de vosotros

9 Porque si os volviereis al SEÑOR, vuestros hermanos y vuestros hijos hallarán misericordia delante de los que los tienen cautivos, y volverán a esta tierra; porque el SEÑOR vuestro Dios es clemente y misericordioso, y no volverá de vosotros su rostro, si vosotros os volviereis a él

10 Y así pasaban los correos de ciudad en ciudad por la tierra de Efraín y Manasés, hasta Zabulón; mas ellos se reían y burlaban de ellos

11 Con todo eso, algunos varones de Aser, de Manasés, y de Zabulón, se humillaron, y vinieron a Jerusalén

12 En Judá también fue la mano de Dios para darles un solo corazón para cumplir el mandato del rey y de los príncipes, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR

13 Y se juntó en Jerusalén un pueblo grande para hacer la solemnidad de los panes sin levadura, en el mes segundo; una gran congregación

14 Y levantándose, quitaron los altares que había en Jerusalén; quitaron también todos los altares de incienso, y los echaron en el arroyo de Cedrón

15 Entonces sacrificaron la pascua, a los catorce del mes segundo; y los sacerdotes y los levitas se santificaron con vergüenza, y trajeron los holocaustos a la Casa del SEÑOR

16 Y se pusieron en su orden conforme a su costumbre, conforme a la ley de Moisés varón de Dios; los sacerdotes esparcían la sangre que recibían de manos de los levitas

17 Porque aún había muchos en la congregación que no estaban santificados, y por eso los levitas sacrificaban la pascua por todos los que no se habían limpiado para santificarse al SEÑOR

18 Porque una gran multitud del pueblo de Efraín y Manasés, y de Isacar y Zabulón, no se habían purificado, y comieron la pascua no conforme a lo que está escrito. Mas Ezequías oró por ellos, diciendo: el SEÑOR, que es bueno, sea propicio a todo aquel que ha apercibido su corazón para buscar a Dios

19 al SEÑOR Dios de sus padres, aunque no esté purificado según la purificación del santuario

20 Y oyó el SEÑOR a Ezequías, y sanó al pueblo

21 Así hicieron los hijos de Israel, que estaban presentes en Jerusalén, la solemnidad de los panes sin levadura por siete días con gran gozo; y alababan al SEÑOR todos los días los levitas y los sacerdotes, con instrumentos de fortaleza al SEÑOR

22 Y Ezequías habló al corazón de todos los levitas que tenían buen entendimiento para servir al SEÑOR. Y comieron los sacrificios de la fiesta por siete días, ofreciendo sacrificios pacíficos, y dando gracias al SEÑOR Dios de sus padres

23 Y toda la multitud determinó que celebraran otros siete días; y celebraron otros siete días con alegría

24 Porque Ezequías rey de Judá había dado a la congregación mil toros y siete mil ovejas; y también los príncipes dieron a la congregación mil toros y diez mil ovejas; y muchos sacerdotes se santificaron

25 Y toda la congregación de Judá se alegró, y los sacerdotes y levitas, y asimismo toda la congregación que había venido de Israel; y también los extranjeros que habían venido de la tierra de Israel, y los que habitaban en Judá

26 Y se hicieron grandes alegrías en Jerusalén; porque desde el tiempo de Salomón hijo de David rey de Israel, no hubo tal cosa en Jerusalén

27 Y levantándose los sacerdotes levitas, bendijeron al pueblo; y la voz de ellos fue oída, y su oración llegó a la habitación de su santuario, al cielo

Chapter 30

Hezekiah's passover. (1-12) The passover celebrated. (13-20) The feast of unleavened bread. (21-27)

Verses 1-12 Hezekiah made Israel as welcome to the passover, as any of his own subjects. Let us yield ourselves unto the Lord. Say not, you will do what you please, but resolve to do what he pleases. We perceive in the carnal mind a stiffness, an obstinacy, an unaptness to compel with God; we have it from our fathers: this must be overcome. Those who, through grace, have turned to God themselves, should do all they can to bring others to him. Numbers will be scorners, but some will be humbled and benefited; perhaps where least expected. The rich mercy of God is the great argument by which to enforce repentance; the vilest who submit and yield themselves to the Lord, seek his grace, and give themselves to his service, shall certainly be saved. Oh that messengers were sent forth to carry these glad tidings to every city and every village, through every land!

Verses 13-20 The great thing needful in attendance upon God in solemn ordinances, is, that we make heart-work of it; all is nothing without this. Where this sincerity and fixedness of heart are, there may yet be many things short of the purification of the sanctuary. These defects need pardoning, healing grace; for omissions in duty are sins, as well as omissions of duty. If God should deal with us in strict justice, even as to the very best of our doings, we should be undone. The way to obtain pardon, is to seek it of God by prayer; it must be gotten by petition through the blood of Christ. Yet every defect is sin, and needs forgiveness; and should be matter to humble, but not to discourage us, though nothing can make up for the want of a heart prepared to seek the Lord.

Verses 21-27 Many prayers were put up to God with the peace-offerings. In these Israel looked to God as the God of their fathers, a God in covenant with them. There was also abundance of good preaching. The Levites read and explained the Scriptures. Faith cometh by hearing, and true religion preaching has abounded. They sang psalms every day: praising God should be much of our work in religious assemblies. Having kept the seven days of the feast in this religious manner, they had so much comfort in it, that they kept other seven days also. This they did with gladness. Holy duties should be done with holy gladness. And when sinners humble themselves before the Lord, they may expect gladness in his ordinances. Those who taste this happiness will not soon grow weary of it, but will be glad to prolong their enjoyment.

Hezekiah having consulted his nobles about keeping the passover the second month, and determined upon it, sent messengers throughout Israel and Judah, to acquaint them with it, at which some mocked, and others seriously attended to it, 2Ch 30:1-12 so it was celebrated in a solemn manner, though some were not qualified for it according to the law, and for whose pardon Hezekiah prayed, and it was granted, 2Ch 30:13-20, also the feast of unleavened bread was kept seven days, and a festival of seven days more was likewise observed with great joy and gladness, 2Ch 30:21-27.

\\that they should come to the house of the Lord at Jerusalem\\; not that he laid his commands upon them to come, they not being his subjects, namely, those of the ten tribes; but he hereby admonished them of their duty, and gave them a kind invitation, signifying the doors of the temple were open for them, and they were welcome to come thither:

\\to keep the passover unto the Lord God of Israel\\; to the glory of his name, who was the common Lord of them all, and whose command it was to keep the passover, and that at Jerusalem, and nowhere else, see De 16:1-6. 19787-950128-1141-2Ch30.2
