2 Crónicas 19

1 Y Josafat rey de Judá se volvió en paz a su casa en Jerusalén

2 Y le salió al encuentro Jehú, hijo de Hanani, vidente, y dijo al rey Josafat: ¿A un impío das ayuda, y amas a los que aborrecen al SEÑOR? Pues la ira de la presencia del SEÑOR será sobre ti por ello

3 Pero se han hallado en ti buenas cosas, porque quemaste los bosques del culto pagano de la tierra, y has apercibido tu corazón a buscar a Dios

4 Y habitaba Josafat en Jerusalén; mas volvía y salía al pueblo, desde Beerseba hasta el monte de Efraín, y los hizo volver al SEÑOR Dios de sus padres

5 Y puso en la tierra jueces en todas las ciudades fuertes de Judá, por todas las ciudades

6 Y dijo a los jueces: Mirad lo que hacéis; para que no juzguéis en lugar de hombre, sino en lugar del SEÑOR, el cual está con vosotros en la palabra del juicio

7 Sea, pues, con vosotros el temor del SEÑOR; guardad y haced; porque acerca del SEÑOR nuestro Dios no hay iniquidad, ni acepción de personas, ni recibir soborno

8 Y puso también Josafat en Jerusalén algunos de los levitas y sacerdotes, y de las cabezas de los padres de Israel, para el juicio del SEÑOR y para las causas. Y volvieron a Jerusalén

9 Y les mandó, diciendo: Procederéis así con temor del SEÑOR, en verdad, y con corazón perfecto

10 En cualquier causa que viniere a vosotros de vuestros hermanos que habitan en sus ciudades, entre sangre y sangre, entre ley y mandamiento, estatutos o derechos, habéis de amonestarles de que no sean culpables contra el SEÑOR, para que no venga ira sobre vosotros y sobre vuestros hermanos. Obrando así no serán culpables

11 He aquí a Amarías el sumo sacerdote, que será sobre vosotros en todo negocio del SEÑOR; y Zebadías hijo de Ismael, príncipe de la casa de Judá, en todos los negocios del rey; y los levitas que serán los maestros delante de vosotros. Esforzaos pues, y obrad; que el SEÑOR estará con el bueno

Chapter 19

Jehoshaphat visits his kingdom.

- Whenever we return in peace to our houses, we ought to acknowledge God's providence in preserving our going out and coming in. And if we have been kept through more than common dangers, we are, in a special manner, bound to be thankful. Distinguishing mercies lay us under strong obligations. The prophet tells Jehoshaphat he had done very ill in joining Ahab. He took the reproof well. See the effect the reproof had upon him. He strictly searched his own kingdom. By what the prophet said, Jehoshaphat perceived that his former attempts for reformation were well-pleasing to God; therefore he did what was then left undone. It is good when commendations quicken us to our duty. There are diversities of gifts and operations, but all from the same Spirit, and for the public good; and as every one has received the gift, so let him minister the same. Blessed be God for magistrates and ministers, scribes and statesmen, men of books, and men of business. Observe the charge the king gave. They must do all in the fear of the Lord, with a perfect, upright heart. And they must make it their constant care to prevent sin, as an offence to God, and what would bring wrath on the people.

Jehoshaphat returning from the battle at Ramothgilead, was met by a prophet, who reproved him for helping the ungodly, 2Ch 19:1-3, which quickened him to a greater regard for the reformation of his kingdom, 2Ch 19:4, and he set judges in all the cities of Judah, and exhorted them to do justice, 2Ch 19:5-7, and in the city of Jerusalem he appointed priests and Levites for the same purpose, and gave them a strict charge, and animated and encouraged them to perform their office faithfully, 2Ch 19:8-11.
