Listen to Jonah 3:1-2

Jonah Goes to Nineveh

1 Then the word of the LORD came to Jonah a second time:

Jonah 3:1-2 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO JONAH 3

This chapter gives an account of the renewal of Jonah's message to Nineveh, and of his faithful execution of it, Jon 3:1-4; and of the fruit and effect of it, the conversion of the Ninevites, their faith in God, repentance of their sins, and reformation from them, Jon 3:5-9; and of God's approbation thereof, by revoking the sentence he had pronounced upon them, Jon 3:10.

A Great Pursuit
A Great Pursuit
Bob Russell, Mike Breaux, Rick Atchley, Ben Cachiaras, Aaron Brockett, and Gene Appel

In this message, Rick Atchley of The Hills Church in Fort Worth, Texas, shares how Jonah's story is far more than that of a man swallowed by a fish, it's the story of a God who relentlessly pursues those who run from Him.Discover why the storm Jonah faced wasn't punishment, but a loving intervention designed to bring him back to God's purpose. You'll be challenged to consider how God may use difficult circumstances to correct, restore, and draw us closer to Him. Most importantly, you'll be reminded that no one is beyond God's reach and no prodigal is beyond His grace. If you've ever felt distant from God or wondered whether He still pursues you, this message offers a powerful reminder of His unfailing love.

He gives second chances
He gives second chances
Dr. J. Vernon McGee

Now our God is the God of the second chance. What a marvelous, wonderful thing that is. He’s long-suffering and patient. He’s not willing that any should perish, and if you’re His child, He’s going to hold onto you, you may be sure of that. And friends, if you’re a child of God and get in sin, you can come back to Him, but you’d better mean business. You better be sincere. And you can handle it very privately with Him; you can go to Him and tell Him. And you can tell Him what you can tell no one else, and He’ll accept you and receive you. He’s the God of the second chance.

Salvation is of the Lord
Salvation is of the Lord
Dr. J. Vernon McGee

God cannot save us by our works, because the only thing that we can present to Him is imperfection, and God just does not accept imperfection. You have to present to Him perfection, and that’s the only thing that God will accept. Now you and I are unable to present it. Therefore, if it depended on us or our works, we could never be saved. If deliverance is to come, it’ll have to come to us just like it came to Jonah—dead and hopeless in that fish. If he’s to live, if he’s to be used of God, it’s because “salvation is of the Lord.” And if you ever get saved, it’s because salvation is of the Lord.
