Jeremiah 50:28 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 50:28

The voice of them that flee and escape out the land of
Babylon
The Jews that were captives in Babylon, upon the taking of it, took that opportunity to flee out Of it, and make their escape to their own land, which some of them might do before the proclamation of Cyrus; whose voice declaring to their brethren in Judea what God had done to Babylon, and rejoicing at it, was as if it was heard by the prophet in vision, or under a spirit of prophecy; this also is true of them who will be called out of mystical Babylon, and escape from thence, just before its destruction, ( Revelation 18:4 ) ; to declare in Zion the vengeance of the Lord our God, the vengeance of
his temple;
the vengeance which God took on the Chaldeans for their ill usage of his people, and for plundering and burning his temple; this the Jews, when they came to their own land, declared to their brethren there with joy and pleasure; and a like joy will be expressed when God shall avenge his people on antichrist, for his blasphemy against him, his name, his tabernacle, and them that dwell in it, ( Revelation 13:6 ) ( 18:20 ) ( Revelation 19:1 Revelation 19:2 ) .

Jeremiah 50:28 In-Context

26 Come against her from [the] end, open her granaries. Pile her up like heaps and destroy her. Let there be no remnant for her.
27 Massacre all her bulls, let them go down to the slaughtering. Woe to them, for [their] day has come, the time of their punishment.
28 [There is the] sound of fugitives and survivors from the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance for his temple.
29 Summon archers against Babylon, all those who bend [the] bow. Encamp all around her, there must not be for her an escape. Take revenge on her according to her deeds. According to all that she has done, [so] do to her. For against Yahweh she has behaved insolently, against the Holy One of Israel.
30 {Therefore} her young men will fall in her public squares, and all {her soldiers} will perish on that day," {declares} Yahweh.
