John 17:16

16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

John 17:16 Meaning and Commentary

John 17:16

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
] These words are repeated from ( John 17:14 ) , where they are given as a reason of the world's hatred to them; and here, as showing that they are exposed to the evil of it; and in both are used as an argument with his Father, that he would take notice of them, and preserve them.

John 17:16 In-Context

14 I have given them your word, and the world has hated them, because they are not of the world just as I am not of the world.
15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them in the truth--your word is truth.
18 Just as you sent me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.
