1 Après ces choses et ces actes de fidélité, parut Sanchérib, roi d'Assyrie, qui pénétra en Juda, et assiégea les villes fortes, dans l'intention de s'en emparer.

2 Chronicles 32:1

After these things, and the establishment thereof
What are recorded in the preceding chapters, when matters were well settled, especially with respect to religion and temple service, and when Hezekiah was well established in the throne of his kingdom, had fought with and defeated the Philistines, and cast off the Assyrian yoke, and was in very prosperous circumstances; for it was in the fourteenth year of his reign that what follows was done:

Sennacherib king of Assyria came and entered into Judah, and encamped
against the fenced cities, and thought to win them for himself;
or to break them, or into them; or through them ^F25 to break down the walls to take them, and join them to himself, as the Targum, and he did take them, see ( 2 Kings 18:13 ) .

1 Après ces choses et ces actes de fidélité, parut Sanchérib, roi d'Assyrie, qui pénétra en Juda, et assiégea les villes fortes, dans l'intention de s'en emparer.

2 Ezéchias, voyant que Sanchérib était venu et qu'il se proposait d'attaquer Jérusalem,

3 tint conseil avec ses chefs et ses hommes vaillants, afin de boucher les sources d'eau qui étaient hors de la ville; et ils furent de son avis.

4 Une foule de gens se rassemblèrent, et ils bouchèrent toutes les sources et le ruisseau qui coule au milieu de la contrée. Pourquoi, disaient-ils, les rois d'Assyrie trouveraient-ils à leur arrivée des eaux en abondance?

5 Ezéchias prit courage; il reconstruisit la muraille qui était en ruine et l'éleva jusqu'aux tours, bâtit un autre mur en dehors, fortifia Millo dans la cité de David, et prépara une quantité d'armes et de boucliers.
