Mark 6:17

For Herod himself had sent forth
Some of his guard, a detachment of soldiers,

and laid hold upon John;
who seized upon him, and took him up:

and bound him in prison;
in the castle of Machaerus:

for Herodias' sake, his brother Philip's wife, for he had married
her;
whilst his brother was living, and who had had children by her; (See Gill on Matthew 14:3).

16 Da es aber Herodes hörte, sprach er: Es ist Johannes, den ich enthauptet habe; der ist von den Toten auferstanden.
17 Er aber, Herodes, hatte ausgesandt und Johannes gegriffen und ins GefÀngnis gelegt um der Herodias willen, seines Bruders Philippus Weib; denn er hatte sie gefreit.
18 Johannes aber sprach zu Herodes: Es ist nicht recht, daß du deines Bruders Weib habest.
19 Herodias aber stellte ihm nach und wollte ihn töten, und konnte nicht.
