Psalm 108

1 Ein Psalmlied Davids. Gott, es ist mein rechter Ernst; ich will singen und dichten, meine Ehre auch.

2 Wohlauf, Psalter und Harfe! Ich will in der Frühe auf sein.

3 Ich will dir danken, HERR, unter den Völkern; ich will dir lobsingen unter den Leuten.

4 Denn deine Gnade reicht, soweit der Himmel ist, und deine Wahrheit, soweit die Wolken gehen.

5 Erhebe dich, Gott, über den Himmel, und deine Ehre über alle Lande.

6 Auf daß deine lieben Freunde erledigt werden, hilf mit deiner Rechten und erhöre mich!

7 Gott redete in seinem Heiligtum, des bin ich froh, und will Sichem teilen und das Tal Sukkoth abmessen.

8 Gilead ist mein, Manasse ist auch mein, und Ephraim ist die Macht meines Hauptes, Juda ist mein Zepter,

9 Moab ist mein Waschbecken, ich will meinen Schuh über Edom strecken, über die Philister will ich jauchzen.

10 Wer will mich führen in eine feste Stadt? Wer wird mich leiten bis nach Edom?

11 Wirst du es nicht tun, Gott, der du uns verstößest und ziehest nicht aus, Gott, mit unserm Heer?

12 Schaffe uns Beistand in der Not; denn Menschenhilfe ist nichts nütze.

13 Mit Gott wollen wir Taten tun; er wird unsre Feinde untertreten.

Psalm 108 Commentary

Chapter 108

- We may usefully select passages from different psalms, as here, ( Psalm 57 , Psalm 60 ) , to help our devotions, and enliven our gratitude. When the heart is firm in faith and love, the tongue, being employed in grateful praises, is our glory. Every gift of the Lord honours and profits the possessor, as it is employed in God's service and to his glory. Believers may pray with assured faith and hope, for all the blessings of salvation; which are secured to them by the faithful promise and covenant of God. Then let them expect from him help in every trouble, and victory in every conflict. Whatever we do, whatever we gain, God must have all the glory. Lord, visit all our souls with this salvation, with this favour which thou bearest to thy chosen people.

\\<>\\. This psalm consists of several passages out of the fifty seventh and sixtieth psalms, with very little variation. Jarchi and Kimchi refer it to the times of the Messiah. The title in the Syriac version is, ``concerning the calling of the Gentiles,'' to which, no doubt, it has respect.
