1 Chronicles 29:12

12 Riches and glory come from you, you're ruler over all; You hold strength and power in the palm of your hand to build up and strengthen all.

1 Chronicles 29:12 Meaning and Commentary

1 Chronicles 29:12

Both riches and honour come of thee
Whatever of either the children of men have is not owing to their merits, nor to their diligence and industry, and wise conduct, but to the providence of God, ( Ecclesiastes 9:11 ) ( Psalms 75:6 Psalms 75:7 ) so the gods with the Heathens are said F15 to be givers of riches:

and thou reignest over all;
govern the world by wisdom, and dispose all things in it for the best:

in thine hand is power and might;
to do whatsoever he pleaseth:

and in thine hand it is to make great;
in worldly things, and so in spiritual:

and to give strength unto all;
against their enemies, and to do the will and work of God; of all which David had had an experience.

1 Chronicles 29:12 In-Context

10 David blessed God in full view of the entire congregation: Blessed are you, God of Israel, our father from of old and forever.
11 To you, O God, belong the greatness and the might, the glory, the victory, the majesty, the splendor; Yes! Everything in heaven, everything on earth; the kingdom all yours! You've raised yourself high over all.
12 Riches and glory come from you, you're ruler over all; You hold strength and power in the palm of your hand to build up and strengthen all.
13 And here we are, O God, our God, giving thanks to you, praising your splendid Name.
14 "But me - who am I, and who are these my people, that we should presume to be giving something to you? Everything comes from you; all we're doing is giving back what we've been given from your generous hand.
