Genesis 41:39 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 41:39

And Pharaoh said unto Joseph
After his servants had agreed to his being the man: at least Pharaoh had declared his mind that he should be the person; which if any of them disliked, as probably might be the case of some through envy, and as desirous of the post themselves, yet durst not make any opposition to it: forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this;
the interpretation of his dreams, what would be hereafter for fourteen years to come, what was advisable to be done for the good of the nation, and had proposed a plan so well contrived and formed: [there is] none so discreet and wise as thou [art];
and consequently none so fit for this business, since he was so divinely qualified; and Justin, the Heathen writer F18, observes that he had such knowledge and experience of things, that his answers seemed to be given not from men, but from God.

Genesis 41:39 In-Context

37 This seemed like a good idea to Pharaoh and his officials.
38 Then Pharaoh said to his officials, "Isn't this the man we need? Are we going to find anyone else who has God's spirit in him like this?"
39 So Pharaoh said to Joseph, "You're the man for us. God has given you the inside story - no one is as qualified as you in experience and wisdom.
40 From now on, you're in charge of my affairs; all my people will report to you. Only as king will I be over you."
41 So Pharaoh commissioned Joseph: "I'm putting you in charge of the entire country of Egypt."
