Ezekiel 45

The LORD'S Portion of the Land

1 "And when you 1divide by lot the land for inheritance, you shall offer an 2allotment to the LORD, a 3holy portion of the land; the length shall be the length of 25,000 * * 4cubits, and the width shall be 20,000 *. It shall be holy within all its boundary round about.
2 "Out of this there shall be for the holy place a square round about 5five hundred by five hundred cubits, and fifty cubits for its 6open space round about.
3 "From this area you shall measure a length of 25,000 * * cubits and a width of 10,000 * cubits; and in it shall be the sanctuary, the most holy place.
4 "It shall be the holy portion of the land; it shall be for the 7priests, the ministers of the sanctuary, who 8come near to minister to the LORD, and it shall be a place for their houses and a holy place for the sanctuary.
5 "An area 9 25,000 * * cubits in length and 10,000 * in width shall be for the Levites, the ministers of the house, and for their possession cities to dwell in.
6 "You shall give the 10city possession of an area 5,000 * cubits wide and 25,000 * * cubits long, alongside the allotment of the holy portion; it shall be for the whole house of Israel.

Portion for the Prince

7 "The 11prince shall have land on either side of the holy allotment and the property of the city, adjacent * to the holy allotment and the property of the city, on the west side toward the west and on the east side toward the east, and in length comparable to one of the portions, from the west border to the east border.
8 "This shall be his land for a possession in Israel; so My princes shall no longer 12oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel 13according to their tribes."
9 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "14Enough, you princes of Israel; put away 15violence and destruction, and 16practice justice and righteousness. Stop your 17expropriations from My people," declares the Lord GOD.
10 "You shall have 18just balances, a just 19ephah and a just 20bath.
11 "The ephah and the bath shall be the same quantity, so that the bath will contain a tenth of a 21homer and the ephah a tenth of a homer; their standard shall be according to the homer.
12 "The 22shekel shall be twenty 23gerahs; twenty shekels, twenty-five * shekels, and fifteen * shekels shall be your maneh.
13 "This is the offering that you shall offer: a sixth of an ephah from a homer of wheat; a sixth of an ephah from a homer of barley;
14 and the prescribed portion of oil (namely, the bath of oil ), a tenth of a bath from each kor (which is ten baths or a homer, for ten baths are a homer );
15 and one sheep from each flock of two hundred from the watering places of Israel -for a 24grain offering, for a burnt offering and for peace offerings, to 25make atonement for them," declares the Lord GOD.
16 "26All the people of the land shall give to this offering for the 27prince in Israel.
17 "It shall be the 28prince's part to provide the 29burnt offerings, the grain offerings and the drink offerings, at the 30feasts, on the 31new moons and on the sabbaths, at all the appointed feasts of the house of Israel; he shall provide the sin offering, the grain offering, the burnt offering and the 32peace offerings, to make atonement for the house of Israel."
18 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "In the 33first month, on the first of the month, you shall take a young bull 34without blemish and 35cleanse the sanctuary.
19 "The priest shall take some of the blood from the sin offering and put it on the door posts of the house, on the 36four corners of the 37ledge of the altar and on the posts of the gate of the inner court.
20 "Thus you shall do on the seventh day of the month for everyone who goes 38astray or is naive; so you shall make 39atonement for the house.
21 "In the 40first month, on the fourteenth * day of the month, you shall have the 41Passover, a feast of seven days; unleavened bread shall be eaten.
22 "On that day the prince shall provide for himself and all the people of the land a 42bull for a sin offering.
23 "During the 43seven days of the feast he shall provide as a 44burnt offering to the LORD 45seven bulls and seven rams without blemish on every day of the seven days, and a male goat daily for a sin offering.
24 "He shall provide as a 46grain offering an ephah with a bull, an ephah with a ram and a hin of oil with an ephah.
25 "In the 47seventh month, on the fifteenth * day of the month, at the feast, he shall provide like this, seven days for the sin offering, the burnt offering, the grain offering and the oil."

Ezekiel 45 Commentary

Chapter 45

- In the period here foretold, the worship and the ministers of God will be provided for; the princes will rule with justice, as holding their power under Christ; the people will live in peace, ease, and godliness. These things seem to be represented in language taken from the customs of the times in which the prophet wrote. Christ is our Passover that is sacrificed for us: we celebrate the memorial of that sacrifice, and feast upon it, triumphing in our deliverance out of the Egyptian slavery of sin, and our preservation from the destroying sword of Divine justice, in the Lord's supper, which is our passover feast; as the whole Christian life is, and must be, the feast of the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

Chapter Summary

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 45

This chapter treats of the division of the land in future time, and the persons and uses for which it is to be made; one part being for the sanctuary, and the priests that serve in it, and for their houses for them to dwell in, Eze 45:1-4, another for the Levites and their chambers, Eze 45:5, and another for the city, for the Israelites in common, Eze 45:6, and the last for the prince; and of the situation and extent of it, Eze 45:7,8 and of the righteous administration of civil government in the time of the spiritual reign of Christ, in abstinence from violence and exactions, and doing justice, for which orders and directions are given, Eze 45:9-12, then of the oblations of the people of the land, Eze 45:13-16, and next of those that are to be prepared by the prince, Eze 45:17, and the times of the offering of them, at the beginning of the year, on the feasts of the passover and tabernacles, Eze 45:18-25, the rules for which are so different from the Mosaic law, as show the abrogation of that; and that all this is to be understood in a spiritual and evangelic sense.
