Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite
Or, who was of Teman, as the Targum, the first of Job's friends and comforters, the oldest of them, who first began the dispute with him; which was carried on by his two other companions, who had spoken in their turns; and now in course it fell to him to answer a second time, as he here does,

and said,
as follows.

2 "Should a wise man answer with windy knowledge And fill himself with the east wind?
3 "Should he argue with useless talk, Or with words which are not profitable?
4 "Indeed, you do away with reverence And hinder meditation before God.
5 "For your guilt teaches your mouth, And you choose the language of the crafty.
