Psalms 55:11

11 Forces that destroy are at work inside it. Its streets are full of people who cheat others and take advantage of them.

Psalms 55:11 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 55:11

Wickedness [is] in the midst thereof
All manner of wickedness; abominable wickedness; wickedness as arrived to its highest pitch, and as having filled up its measure; see ( Ezekiel 9:4 ) ( Zechariah 5:7 Zechariah 5:8 ) ;

deceit and guile depart not from her streets;
where truth was fallen, and equity could not enter, ( Isaiah 59:14 ) ; for these are contrary the one to the other, and are incompatible; where the one prevails, the other must give way. This whole account shows the aboundings of sin in Jerusalem at this time, and that it was openly and publicly committed, and contains so many reasons of the imprecations in ( Psalms 55:9 ) .

Psalms 55:11 In-Context

9 Lord, destroy the plans of sinners. Keep them from understanding one another. I see people destroying things and fighting in the city.
10 Day and night they prowl around on top of its walls. The city is full of crime and trouble.
11 Forces that destroy are at work inside it. Its streets are full of people who cheat others and take advantage of them.
12 If an enemy were making fun of me, I could stand it. If he were looking down on me, I could hide from him.
13 But it's you, someone like myself. It's my companion, my close friend.
