Psalm 130:2

Listen to Psalm 130:2

Psalm 130:2 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 130:2

Lord, hear my voice
His prayer, which was vocal: God is a God hearing prayer; sometimes his people think he does not hear them; but he always does, and in his own time answers; for to hear prayer with him is to answer it; which he does likewise in his own way as well as time; and not always in the way and at the time his people would have him;

let thine ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications;
his prayers put up in an humble suppliant manner, for grace and mercy; not pleading merit and righteousness: these he desires God would hearken to and hear, listen unto, bow and incline his ears, as he is sometimes said to do; which is a wonderful instance of his condescension.

Psalm 130:2 In-Context

1 From the depths of despair, O LORD, I call for your help.
2 Hear my cry, O Lord. Pay attention to my prayer.
3 LORD, if you kept a record of our sins, who, O Lord, could ever survive?
4 But you offer forgiveness, that we might learn to fear you.
5 I am counting on the LORD ; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
