Psalms 18:39

39 You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet.

Psalms 18:39 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 18:39

For thou hast girded me with strength unto battle
See ( Psalms 18:32 ) ; that natural strength, courage and valour, which David had, were from the Lord; and so is the Spirit of power, love, and of a sound mind, which believers have; and likewise that strength which Christ, as man, had and used in his combat with the powers of darkness; see ( Psalms 80:17 ) ;

thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me;
as the psalmist ascribes his strength, so he attributes his success to the Lord; who likewise subdues the sins of his people, and all other enemies of theirs, and who also makes the enemies of his Son his footstool, ( Psalms 110:1 ) .

Psalms 18:39 In-Context

37 I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered.
38 I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet.
39 You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet.
40 You placed my foot on their necks. I have destroyed all who hated me.
41 They called for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the LORD, but he refused to answer.
