1 Kings 21:11

And the men of the city, even the elders and the nobles who
were the inhabitants in his city, did as Jezebel had sent unto them,
&c.] That Jezebel should contrive so execrable a scheme, and that there should be such sons of Belial among the common people to swear to such falsehoods, need not seem strange; but that the elders and nobles of the city, the chief magistrates thereof, should be so sadly and universally depraved as to execute such a piece of villany, is really surprising. Idolatry, when it prevails, takes away all sense of humanity and justice:

[and] as it was written in the letters which she had sent unto them;
they punctually, exactly, obeyed the orders in them, as follows.

9 En esas cartas daba la siguiente orden: «Convoquen a todos los ciudadanos a que se reúnan para hacer ayuno y oración y denle a Nabot un lugar de honor.

10 Luego, sienten a dos sinvergüenzas frente a él que lo acusen de maldecir a Dios y al rey. Después sáquenlo y mátenlo a pedradas».

11 Así que los ancianos y los demás líderes de la ciudad siguieron las instrucciones que Jezabel había escrito en las cartas.

12 Proclamaron ayuno y pusieron a Nabot en un lugar prominente ante la gente.

13 Luego llegaron los dos sinvergüenzas y se sentaron frente a él. Entonces acusaron a Nabot ante todos los presentes diciendo: «Este hombre maldijo a Dios y al rey». Entonces arrastraron a Nabot hasta sacarlo de la ciudad y lo mataron a pedradas.
