Nehemías 5:12

12 Entonces ellos respondieron:
—Devolveremos todo y no le exigiremos nada al pueblo; haremos como tú dices.
Luego llamé a los sacerdotes e hice que los nobles y los funcionarios juraran que cumplirían su promesa.

Nehemiah 5:12

Then said they, we will restore them
The lands, vineyards, oliveyards, and houses:

and will require nothing of them;
not the hundredth part of the fruits of the earth by way of salary:

so will we do as thou sayest;
they approved of his proposal, and readily agreed to it:

then I called the priests, and took an oath of them that they should do
according to this promise;
not that the priests were delinquents, they were not charged with anything of this kind, nor were they the men that promised restitution; but the priests were called to administer the oath to the nobles, and rulers, and rich men, to oblige them the more to keep their word; an oath being sacred, priests in an holy office were made use of to give it, that it might be the more solemn, and the more strictly regarded.

10 Yo mismo, al igual que mis hermanos y mis trabajadores, he estado prestando dinero y grano al pueblo, pero ahora dejemos de cobrarles intereses.

11 Devuélvanles hoy mismo sus campos y viñedos, sus olivares y sus casas. Además devuelvan los intereses que cobraron cuando prestaron dinero, grano, vino nuevo y aceite de oliva.

12 Entonces ellos respondieron:
—Devolveremos todo y no le exigiremos nada al pueblo; haremos como tú dices.
Luego llamé a los sacerdotes e hice que los nobles y los funcionarios juraran que cumplirían su promesa.

13 Sacudí los dobleces de mi manto y les dije:
—¡Si no cumplen su promesa, que así los sacuda Dios de sus casas y de sus propiedades!
Entonces toda la asamblea respondió:
—¡Amén!
Todos alabaron al Señor
y cumplieron con lo prometido.

14 Durante los doce años en los que fui gobernador de Judá —desde el año veinte hasta el año treinta y dos del reinado del rey Artajerjes
— ni yo ni mis funcionarios reclamamos la ración de comida que nos correspondía.
