Traslado del arca a la casa de Obed Edom

1 Después de consultar a los jefes de mil y de cien soldados, y a todos los oficiales, David

2 dijo a toda la asamblea de Israel: «Si les parece bien, y si es lo que el SEÑOR nuestro Dios desea, invitemos a nuestros hermanos que se han quedado por todo el territorio de Israel, y también a los sacerdotes y levitas que están en los pueblos y aldeas, a que se unan a nosotros

3 para traer de regreso el arca de nuestro Dios. La verdad es que desde el tiempo de Saúl no le hemos prestado atención».

4 A la asamblea le agradó la propuesta, y acordó que se hiciera así.

5 Entonces David reunió a todo el pueblo de Israel, desde Sijor en Egipto hasta Lebó Jamat,^[a] para trasladar el arca que estaba en Quiriat Yearín.

6 Luego David y todo Israel fueron a Balá, que es Quiriat Yearín de Judá, para trasladar de allí el arca de Dios, sobre la cual se invoca el nombre del SEÑOR, que reina entre querubines.

7 Colocaron el arca de Dios en una carreta nueva y la sacaron de la casa de Abinadab. Uza y Ajío guiaban la carreta.

8 David y todo Israel danzaban ante Dios con gran entusiasmo y cantaban al son de liras, arpas, panderos, címbalos y trompetas.

9 Al llegar a la parcela de Quidón, los bueyes tropezaron; pero Uza, extendiendo las manos, sostuvo el arca.

10 Entonces la ira del SEÑOR se encendió contra Uza por haber tocado el arca, y allí en su presencia Dios lo hirió y le quitó la vida.

11 David se enojó porque el SEÑOR había matado a Uza. Por eso le puso a aquel lugar el nombre de Peres Uza,^[b] nombre que conserva hasta hoy.

12 Aquel día David se sintió temeroso de Dios y exclamó: «¡Es mejor que no me lleve el arca de Dios!»

13 Por eso no se la llevó a la Ciudad de David, sino que ordenó que la trasladaran a la casa de Obed Edom, oriundo de Gat.

14 Fue así como el arca de Dios permaneció tres meses en la casa de Obed Edom, y el SEÑOR bendijo a la familia de Obed Edom y todo lo que tenía.

Chapter 13

David consults about the ark. (1-5) The removal of the ark. (6-14)

Verses 1-5 David said not, What magnificent thing shall I do now? or, What pleasant thing? but, What pious thing? that he might have the comfort and benefit of that sacred oracle. Let us bring the ark to us, that it may be a blessing to us. Those who honour God, profit themselves. It is the wisdom of those setting out in the world, to take God's ark with them. Those are likely to go on in the favour of God, who begin in the fear of God.

Verses 6-14 Let the sin of Uzza warn all to take heed of presumption, rashness, and irreverence, in dealing with holy things; and let none think that a good design will justify a bad action. Let the punishment of Uzza teach us not to dare to trifle with God in our approaches to him; yet let us, through Christ, come boldly to the throne of grace. If the gospel be to some a savour of death unto death, as the ark was to Uzza, yet let us receive it in the love of it, and it will be to us a savour of life unto life.
