Administración del reino

1 Salomón reinó sobre todo Israel,

2 y estos fueron sus funcionarios:Azarías, hijo del sacerdote Sadoc;

3 Elijoref y Ahías, hijos de Sisá, cronistas;Josafat hijo de Ajilud, el secretario;

4 Benaías hijo de Joyadá, comandante en jefe;Sadoc y Abiatar, sacerdotes;

5 Azarías hijo de Natán, encargado de los gobernadores;Zabud hijo de Natán, sacerdote y consejero personal del rey;

6 Ajisar, encargado del palacio;Adonirán hijo de Abdá, supervisor del trabajo forzado.

7 Salomón tenía por todo Israel a doce gobernadores, cada uno de los cuales debía abastecer al rey y a su corte un mes al año.

8 Estos son sus nombres:Ben Jur, en la región montañosa de Efraín;

9 Ben Decar, en Macaz, Salbín, Bet Semes y Elón Bet Janán;

10 Ben Jésed, en Arubot (Soco y toda la tierra de Héfer entraban en su jurisdicción);

11 Ben Abinadab, en Nafot Dor^[a] (la esposa de Ben Abinadab fue Tafat hija de Salomón);

12 Baná hijo de Ajilud, en Tanac y Meguido, y en todo Betseán (junto a Saretán, más abajo de Jezrel, desde Betseán hasta Abel Mejolá, y todavía más allá de Jocmeán);

13 Ben Guéber, en Ramot de Galaad (los poblados de Yaír hijo de Manasés en Galaad entraban en su jurisdicción, así como también el distrito de Argob en Basán y sus sesenta grandes ciudades, amuralladas y con cerrojos de bronce);

14 Ajinadab hijo de Idó, en Majanayin;

15 Ajimaz, en Neftalí (Ajimaz estaba casado con Basemat hija de Salomón);

16 Baná hijo de Husay, en Aser y en Alot;

17 Josafat hijo de Parúaj, en Isacar;

18 Simí hijo de Elá, en Benjamín;

19 Guéber hijo de Uri, en Galaad (que era el país de Sijón, rey de los amorreos, y de Og, rey de Basán).En la tierra de Judá^[b] había un solo gobernador.

Prosperidad de Salomón

20 Los pueblos de Judá y de Israel eran tan numerosos como la arena que está a la orilla del mar; y abundaban la comida, la bebida y la alegría.

21 Salomón gobernaba sobre todos los reinos desde el río Éufrates hasta la tierra de los filisteos y la frontera con Egipto. Mientras Salomón vivió, todos estos países fueron sus vasallos tributarios.

22 La provisión diaria de Salomón era de seis mil seiscientos litros de flor de harina y trece mil doscientos litros^[c] de harina,

23 diez bueyes engordados y veinte de pastoreo, y cien ovejas, así como venados, gacelas, corzos y aves de corral.

24 El dominio de Salomón se extendía sobre todos los reinos al oeste del río Éufrates, desde Tifsa hasta Gaza, y disfrutaba de paz en todas sus fronteras.

25 Durante el reinado de Salomón, todos los habitantes de Judá y de Israel, desde Dan hasta Berseba, vivieron seguros bajo su propia parra y su propia higuera.

26 Salomón tenía doce mil caballos,^[d] y cuatro mil^[e] establos para los caballos de sus carros de combate.

27 Los gobernadores, cada uno en su mes, abastecían al rey Salomón y a todos los que se sentaban a su mesa, y se ocupaban de que no les faltara nada.

28 Además, llevaban a los lugares indicados sus cuotas de cebada y de paja para los caballos de tiro y para el resto de la caballería.

La sabiduría de Salomón

29 Dios le dio a Salomón sabiduría e inteligencia extraordinarias; sus conocimientos eran tan vastos como la arena que está a la orilla del mar.

30 Sobrepasó en sabiduría a todos los sabios del Oriente y de Egipto.

31 En efecto, fue más sabio que nadie: más que Etán el ezraíta, y más que Hemán, Calcol y Dardá, los hijos de Majol. Por eso la fama de Salomón se difundió por todas las naciones vecinas.

32 Compuso tres mil proverbios y mil cinco canciones.

33 Disertó acerca de las plantas, desde el cedro del Líbano hasta el hisopo que crece en los muros. También enseñó acerca de las bestias y las aves, los reptiles y los peces.

34 Los reyes de todas las naciones del mundo que se enteraron de la sabiduría de Salomón enviaron a sus representantes para que lo escucharan.

Chapter 4

Solomon's court. (1-19) Solomon's dominions, His daily provision. (20-28) The wisdom of Solomon. (29-34)

Verses 1-19 In the choice of the great officers of Solomon's court, no doubt, his wisdom appeared. Several are the same that were in his father's time. A plan was settled by which no part of the country was exhausted to supply his court, though each sent its portion.

Verses 20-28 Never did the crown of Israel shine so bright, as when Solomon wore it. He had peace on all sides. Herein, his kingdom was a type of the Messiah's; for to Him it is promised that he shall have the heathen for his inheritance, and that princes shall worship him. The spiritual peace, and joy, and holy security, of all the faithful subjects of the Lord Jesus, were typified by that of Israel. The kingdom of God is not, as Solomon's was, meat and drink, but, what is infinitely better, righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. The vast number of his attendants, and the great resort to him, are shown by the provision daily made. Herein Christ far outdoes Solomon, that he feeds all his subjects, not with the bread that perishes, but with that which endures to eternal life.

Verses 29-34 Solomon's wisdom was more his glory than his wealth. He had what is here called largeness of heart, for the heart is often put for the powers of the mind. He had the gift of utterance, as well as wisdom. It is very desirable, that those who have large gifts of any kind, should have large hearts to use them for the good of others. What treasures of wisdom and knowledge are lost! But every sort of knowledge that is needful for salvation is to be found in the holy Scriptures. There came persons from all parts, who were more eager after knowledge than their neighbours, to hear the wisdom of Solomon. Solomon was herein a type of Christ, in whom are hid all treasures of wisdom and knowledge; and hid for us, for he is made of God to us, wisdom. Christ's fame shall spread through all the earth, and men of all nations shall come to him, learn of him, and take upon them his easy yoke, and find rest for their souls.

As in the preceding chapter we have a proof of the wisdom and understanding which the Lord gave to Solomon, as promised, so in this an account is given of the riches and honour he was possessed of; of him, as king over all Israel, and of his princes, 1Ki 4:1-6; of the providers of food for his household in the several parts of the land, 1Ki 4:7-19; of the largeness and extent of his dominions, and of the peace and prosperity thereof, 1Ki 4:20,21,24,25; of his daily provisions for his household and for his cattle, 1Ki 4:22,23,26-28; and of his superior wisdom and knowledge to all others in all nations, which brought some out of all to hear it, 1Ki 4:29-34.
