Ezequiel 36

Profecía sobre las montañas de Israel

1 »Tú, hijo de hombre, profetiza contra los montes de Israel y diles: “Montes de Israel, escuchen la palabra del SEÑOR.

2 Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: El enemigo se ha burlado de ustedes diciendo: ‘Las antiguas colinas ya son nuestras’”.

3 Por eso, profetiza y adviérteles que así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: “A ustedes los han asolado y arrasado por todas partes; se han convertido en posesión del resto de las naciones, y además han sido objeto de burla y de insultos por parte de la gente.

4 Por eso, montes de Israel, escuchen la palabra del SEÑOR omnipotente. Así habla el SEÑOR omnipotente a los montes y a las colinas, a los torrentes y a los valles, a las ruinas desoladas y a los pueblos deshabitados, saqueados y escarnecidos por los pueblos vecinos.

5 Esto dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: En el ardor de mi celo me he pronunciado contra el resto de las naciones y contra todo Edom, porque con mucha alegría y profundo desprecio se han apoderado de mi tierra para destruirla y saquearla”.

6 »Por eso, profetiza contra Israel, y adviérteles a los montes y a las colinas, a los torrentes y a los valles, que así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: “En mi celo y en mi furor he hablado, porque ustedes han sufrido el oprobio de las naciones.

7 Por eso, así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: Juro con la mano en alto que las naciones vecinas también sufrirán su propia deshonra.

8 »”Ustedes, en cambio, montes de Israel, echarán ramas y producirán frutos para mi pueblo Israel, porque ya está por regresar.

9 Yo estoy preocupado por ustedes, y los voy a proteger. Ustedes, los montes, volverán a ser sembrados y cultivados,

10 y multiplicaré al pueblo de Israel. Las ciudades serán repobladas, y reconstruidas las ruinas.

11 Sobre ustedes multiplicaré a los hombres y animales, y ellos serán fecundos y numerosos. Los poblaré como en tiempos pasados, y los haré prosperar más que antes. Entonces sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR.

12 Haré que mi pueblo Israel transite por el territorio de ustedes. Él te poseerá, y tú serás parte de su herencia, y ya nunca más los privarás de sus hijos.

13 »”Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: Por cuanto te han dicho que tú devoras a los hombres y dejas sin hijos a tu propio pueblo,

14 el SEÑOR omnipotente afirma: Ya no devorarás más hombres, ni dejarás sin hijos a tu pueblo.

15 Nunca más te haré oír el ultraje de las naciones; no tendrás que volver a soportar los insultos de los pueblos, ni serás causa de tropiezo para tu nación. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente”».

16 El SEÑOR me dirigió otra vez la palabra:

17 «Hijo de hombre, cuando los israelitas habitaban en su propia tierra, ellos mismos la contaminaron con su conducta y sus acciones. Su conducta ante mí era semejante a la impureza de una mujer en sus días de menstruación.

18 Por eso, por haber derramado tanta sangre sobre la tierra y por haberla contaminado con sus ídolos, desaté mi furor contra ellos.

19 Los dispersé entre las naciones, y quedaron esparcidos entre diversos pueblos. Los juzgué según su conducta y sus acciones.

20 Pero al llegar a las distintas naciones, ellos profanaban mi santonombre, pues se decía de ellos: “Son el pueblo del SEÑOR, pero han tenido que abandonar su tierra”.

21 Así que tuve que defender mi santo nombre, el cual los israelitas profanaban entre las naciones por donde iban.

22 »Por eso, adviértele al pueblo de Israel que así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: “Voy a actuar, pero no por ustedes sino por causa de mi santo nombre, que ustedes han profanado entre las naciones por donde han ido.

23 Daré a conocer la grandeza de mi santo nombre, el cual ha sido profanado entre las naciones, el mismo que ustedes han profanado entre ellas. Cuando dé a conocer mi santidad entre ustedes, las naciones sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente.

24 Los sacaré de entre las naciones, los reuniré de entre todos los pueblos, y los haré regresar a su propia tierra.

25 Los rociaré con agua pura, y quedarán purificados. Los limpiaré de todas sus impurezas e idolatrías.

26 Les daré un nuevo corazón, y les infundiré un espíritu nuevo; les quitaré ese corazón de piedra que ahora tienen, y les pondré un corazón de carne.

27 Infundiré mi Espíritu en ustedes, y haré que sigan mis preceptos y obedezcan mis leyes.

28 Vivirán en la tierra que les di a sus antepasados, y ustedes serán mi pueblo y yo seré su Dios.

29 Los libraré de todas sus impurezas. Haré que tengan trigo en abundancia, y no permitiré que sufran hambre.

30 Multiplicaré el fruto de los árboles y las cosechas del campo, para que no sufran más entre las naciones el oprobio de pasar hambre.

31 Así se acordarán ustedes de su mala conducta y de sus acciones perversas, y sentirán vergüenza por sus propias iniquidades y prácticas detestables.

32 Y quiero que sepan que esto no lo hago por consideración a ustedes. Lo afirma el SEÑOR. ¡Oh, pueblo de Israel, sientan vergüenza y confusión por su conducta!

33 »”Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: El día que yo los purifique de todas sus iniquidades, poblaré las ciudades y reconstruiré las ruinas.

34 Se cultivará la tierra desolada, y ya no estará desierta a la vista de cuantos pasan por ella.

35 Entonces se dirá: ‘Esta tierra, que antes yacía desolada, es ahora un jardín de Edén; las ciudades que antes estaban en ruinas, desoladas y destruidas, están ahora habitadas y fortificadas’.

36 Entonces las naciones que quedaron a su alrededor sabrán que yo, el SEÑOR, reconstruí lo que estaba derribado y replanté lo que había quedado como desierto. Yo, el SEÑOR, lo he dicho, y lo cumpliré”.

37 »Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: Todavía he de concederle al pueblo de Israel que me suplique aumentar el número de sus hombres, hasta que sean como un rebaño.

38 Entonces las ciudades desoladas se llenarán de mucha gente. Serán como las ovejas que, durante las fiestas solemnes, se llevan a Jerusalén para los sacrificios. Entonces sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR».

Ezequiel 36 Commentary

Chapter 36

The land shall be delivered from heathen oppressors. (1-15) The people are reminded of former sins, and promised deliverance. (16-24) Also holiness, and gospel blessings. (25-38)

Verses 1-15 Those who put contempt and reproach on God's people, will have them turned on themselves. God promises favour to his Israel. We have no reason to complain, if the more unkind men are, the more kind God is. They shall come again to their own border. It was a type of the heavenly Canaan, of which all God's children are heirs, and into which they all shall be brought together. And when God returns in mercy to a people who return to him in duty, all their grievances will be set right. The full completion of this prophecy must be in some future event.

Verses 16-24 The restoration of that people, being typical of our redemption by Christ, shows that the end aimed at in our salvation is the glory of God. The sin of a people defiles their land; renders it abominable to God, and uncomfortable to themselves. God's holy name is his great name; his holiness is his greatness, nor does any thing else make a man truly great.

Verses 25-38 Water is an emblem of the cleansing our polluted souls from sin. But no water can do more than take away the filth of the flesh. Water seems in general the sacramental sign of the sanctifying influences of the Holy Ghost; yet this is always connected with the atoning blood of Christ. When the latter is applied by faith to the conscience, to cleanse it from evil works, the former is always applied to the powers of the soul, to purify it from the pollution of sin. All that have an interest in the new covenant, have a new heart and a new spirit, in order to their walking in newness of life. God would give a heart of flesh, a soft and tender heart, complying with his holy will. Renewing grace works as great a change in the soul, as the turning a dead stone into living flesh. God will put his Spirit within, as a Teacher, Guide, and Sanctifier. The promise of God's grace to fit us for our duty, should quicken our constant care and endeavour to do our duty. These are promises to be pleaded by, and will be fulfilled to, all true believers in every age.

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 36

This chapter is a prophecy concerning the desolations of the land of Israel, and the causes of them; of the return of the people to it, and the fruitfulness of it; and of spiritual blessings bestowed upon them in the latter day. And first, for the comfort of the people of Israel, it is observed that their enemies that insulted them will suffer the vengeance of God's wrath, particularly the Edomites, Eze 36:1-7, that the land of Israel should again become fruitful, its cities rebuilt, men and beasts be multiplied upon it, and be no more liable to destruction, nor bear any more the reproach of the Heathen, Eze 36:8-15, the causes of its desolation and destruction, the sins of its inhabitants, especially bloodshed, idolatry, and profanation of the name of God, Eze 36:16-20, nevertheless the Lord promises to have mercy on them, and return them to their own land, not for their sakes, but for his own name's sake, Eze 36:21-24, then follow promises of spiritual blessings to them: as purification from all sin by the blood of Christ; regeneration by his Spirit and grace; and evangelical obedience as the fruit of that, Eze 36:25-27, and others of a mixed kind, respecting partly temporal and partly spiritual blessings, Eze 36:28-36, for all which it is expected of the Lord that he should be prayed unto for them; particularly their inhabitation in their own land, and the multiplication of them in it, with which the chapter concludes, Eze 36:37,38.
