Juan el Bautista prepara el camino

1 Comienzo del evangelio de Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios.^[a]

2 Sucedió como está escrito en el profeta Isaías:«Yo estoy por enviar a mi mensajero delante de ti,el cual preparará tu camino».^[b]

3 «Voz de uno que grita en el desierto:“Preparen el camino del Señor,háganle sendas derechas”».^[c]

4 Así se presentó Juan, bautizando en el desierto y predicando el bautismo de arrepentimiento para el perdón de pecados.

5 Toda la gente de la región de Judea y de la ciudad de Jerusalén acudía a él. Cuando confesaban sus pecados, él los bautizaba en el río Jordán.

6 La ropa de Juan estaba hecha de pelo de camello. Llevaba puesto un cinturón de cuero, y comía langostas y miel silvestre.

7 Predicaba de esta manera: «Después de mí viene uno más poderoso que yo; ni siquiera merezco agacharme para desatar la correa de sus sandalias.

8 Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con^[d] agua, pero él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo».

Bautismo y tentación de Jesús

9 En esos días llegó Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán.

10 En seguida, al subir del agua, Jesús vio que el cielo se abría y que el Espíritu bajaba sobre él como una paloma.

11 También se oyó una voz del cielo que decía: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado; estoy muy complacido contigo».

12 En seguida el Espíritu lo impulsó a ir al desierto,

13 y allí fue tentado por Satanás durante cuarenta días. Estaba entre las fieras, y los ángeles le servían.

Marcos 1:1-13 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO MARK

This is the title of the book, the subject of which is the Gospel; a joyful account of the ministry, miracles, actions, and sufferings of Christ: the writer of it was not one of the twelve apostles, but an evangelist; the same with John Mark, or John, whose surname was Mark: John was his Hebrew name, and Mark his Gentile name, Ac 12:12,25, and was Barnabas's sister's son, Col 4:10, his mother's name was Mary, Ac 12:12. The Apostle Peter calls him his son, 1Pe 5:13, if he is the same; and he is thought to have wrote his Gospel from him {a}, and by his order, and which was afterwards examined and approved by him {b} it is said to have been wrote originally in Latin, or in the Roman tongue: so say the Arabic and Persic versions at the beginning of it, and the Syriac version says the same at the end: but of this there is no evidence, any more, nor so much, as of Matthew's writing his Gospel in Hebrew. The old Latin copy of this, is a version from the Greek; it is most likely that it was originally written in Greek, as the rest of the New Testament.
