Zechariah 1:5

Your fathers, where [are] they?
&c.] They are not in the land of the living; they perished by the sword of the Chaldeans, or died in captivity: and the prophets, do they live for ever?
meaning either the false prophets, as Hananiah and Shemaiah, ( Jeremiah 28:17 ) ( 29:32 ) or the true prophets of the Lord; and the words may be considered as a prevention of an objection the people might make, taken from their prophets dying in common with their fathers; and so the Targum paraphrases them, "and if you should say, the prophets, do they live for ever?" which is followed by Jarchi, and embraced by many interpreters: the answer is, it is true they died; but then their words live, and have had their full accomplishment.

3 Por lo tanto, adviértele al pueblo que así dice el SEÑORTodopoderoso:»“Vuélvanse a mí,y yo me volveré a ustedes—afirma el SEÑOR Todopoderoso—.

4 »”No sean como sus antepasados,a quienes les proclamaronlos profetas de antañoque así dice el SEÑOR Todopoderoso:‘Vuélvanse de su mala conductay de sus malas prácticas’.Porque ellos no me obedecieronni me prestaron atención—afirma el SEÑOR—.

5 »”¿Dónde están los antepasados de ustedes?¿Acaso los profetas siguen con vida?

6 ¿No se cumplieron en sus antepasadoslas palabras y los decretosque a mis siervos los profetasordené comunicarles?»”Entonces ellos se volvieron al SEÑOR, y dijeron: ‘El SEÑOR Todopoderoso nos ha tratado tal y como había resuelto hacerlo: conforme a lo que merecen nuestra conducta y nuestras acciones’”».

7 En el segundo año del reinado de Darío, en el día veinticuatro del mes de sebat, que es el mes undécimo, la palabra del SEÑOR vino al profeta Zacarías, hijo de Berequías y nieto de Idó:
