1 Introducción<br />Les anunciamos al que existe desde el principio,<br /> a quien hemos visto y oído. Lo vimos con nuestros propios ojos y lo tocamos con nuestras propias manos. Él es la Palabra de vida.

2 Él, quien es la vida misma, nos fue revelado, y nosotros lo vimos; y ahora testificamos y anunciamos a ustedes que él es la vida eterna. Estaba con el Padre, y luego nos fue revelado.

3 Les anunciamos lo que nosotros mismos hemos visto y oído, para que ustedes tengan comunión con nosotros; y nuestra comunión es con el Padre y con su Hijo, Jesucristo.

4 Escribimos estas cosas para que ustedes puedan participar plenamente de nuestra alegría.

5 Vivamos en la luz<br />Este es el mensaje que oímos de Jesús<br /> y que ahora les declaramos a ustedes: Dios es luz y en él no hay nada de oscuridad.

6 Por lo tanto, mentimos si afirmamos que tenemos comunión con Dios pero seguimos viviendo en oscuridad espiritual; no estamos practicando la verdad.

7 Si vivimos en la luz, así como Dios está en la luz, entonces tenemos comunión unos con otros, y la sangre de Jesús, su Hijo, nos limpia de todo pecado.

8 Si afirmamos que no tenemos pecado, lo único que hacemos es engañarnos a nosotros mismos y no vivimos en la verdad;

9 pero si confesamos nuestros pecados a Dios, él es fiel y justo para perdonarnos nuestros pecados y limpiarnos de toda maldad.

10 Si afirmamos que no hemos pecado, llamamos a Dios mentiroso y demostramos que no hay lugar para su palabra en nuestro corazón.

1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.

2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

3 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

4 We write this to make our joy complete.

5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
