1 And Hiram, king of Tyre, sent men to David with cedar-trees, and stoneworkers and woodworkers for the building of his house.
1
4 Now Churam Melech Tzor sent malachim to Dovid, and timber of cedars, with masons and carpenters, to build him a bais (palace).
2 And David saw that the Lord had made his position safe as king over Israel, lifting up his kingdom on high because of his people Israel.
2
And Dovid perceived that Hashem had established him Melech over Yisroel, for his malchut was lifted up on high, for the sake of His people Yisroel.
3 And while he was living in Jerusalem, David took more wives and became the father of more sons and daughters.
3
And Dovid took more nashim at Yerushalayim; and Dovid fathered more banim and banot.
4 These are the names of the children he had in Jerusalem: Shammua and Shobab, Nathan and Solomon
4
Now these are the shmot of his banim which were born in Yerushalayim: Shammua, and Shovav, Natan, and Sh’lomo,
5 And Ibhar and Elishua and Elpelet
5
And Yivchar, and Elishua, and Elpalet,
6 And Nogah and Nepheg and Japhia
6
And Nogah, and Nepheg, and Yaphia,
7 And Elishama and Beeliada and Eliphelet.
7
And Elishama, and Be’elyada, and Eliphalet.
8 And when the Philistines had news that David had been made king over all Israel, they went up in search of David, and David, hearing of it, went out against them.
8
And when the Pelishtim (Philistines) heard that Dovid nimshach (was anointed) Melech over kol Yisroel, all the Pelishtim went up to search for Dovid. Dovid heard of it, and went out against them.
9 Now the Philistines had come, and had gone out in every direction in the valley of Rephaim.
9
And the Pelishtim (Philistines) came and spread out in the Emek Rephaim.
10 And David, desiring directions from God, said, Am I to go up against the Philistines? and will you give them into my hands? And the Lord said, Go up; for I will give them into your hands.
10
And Dovid inquired of Elohim, saying, Shall I go up against the Pelishtim? And wilt Thou deliver them into mine yad? And Hashem said unto him, Go up; for I will deliver them into thine yad.
11 So they went up to Baal-perazim, and David overcame them there, and David said, God has let the forces fighting against me be broken by my hand, as a wall is broken down by rushing water; so they gave that place the name of Baal-perazim.
11
So they came up to Ba’al-Peratzim; and Dovid defeated them there. Then Dovid said, Elohim hath broken out upon mine oyevim by mine yad like the peretz mayim (breaking forth of waters); therefore they called the shem of that makom Ba’al-Peratzim.
12 And the Philistines did not take their images with them in their flight; and at David's orders they were burned with fire.
12
And when they [the Pelishtim] had abandoned their elohim there, Dovid gave a commandment, and they were burned with eish.
13 Then the Philistines again went out in every direction in the valley.
13
And the Pelishtim (Philistines) yet again spread out in the emek (valley).
14 And David went for directions to God; and God said to him, You are not to go up after them; but, turning away from them, come face to face with them opposite the spice-trees.
14
Therefore Dovid inquired again of Elohim, and Elohim said unto him, Go not up after them; circle around upon them, and come upon them opposite the mulberry trees.
15 And at the sound of footsteps in the tops of the trees, go out to the fight, for God has gone out before you to overcome the army of the Philistines.
15
And it shall be, when thou shalt hear a sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt go out to milchamah; for HaElohim is gone forth before thee to strike the machaneh Pelishtim.
16 And David did as the Lord had said; and they overcame the army of the Philistines, attacking them from Gibeon as far as Gezer.
16
Dovid therefore did as Elohim commanded him, and they struck down the machaneh Pelishtim from Giveon even to Gezer.
17 And David's name was honoured in all lands; and the Lord put the fear of him on all nations.
17
And the shem (fame) of Dovid went out into all lands; and Hashem brought the pachad (terror) of him upon kol HaGoyim.
