1 Sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
2 And Raia the son of Sobal begot Jahath, of whom were born Ahumai, and Laad. These are the families of Sarathi.
2 Reaiah, Shobal's son, had Jahath; and Jahath had Ahumai and Lahad. These made up the families of the Zorathites.
3 And this is the posterity of Etam: Jezrahel, and Jesema, And Jedebos: and the name of their sister was Asalelphuni.
3 Sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. Their sister was named Hazzelelponi.
4 And Phanuel the father of Gedor, and Ezar the father of Hosa, these are the sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephratha the father of Bethlehem.
4 Penuel had Gedor and Ezer had Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, firstborn son of Ephrathah, who was the father of Bethlehem.
5 And Assur the father of Thecua had two wives, Halaa and Naara:
5 Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
6 And Naara bore him Ozam, and Hepher, and Themani, and Ahasthari: these are the sons of Naara.
6 Naarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari - Naarah's children.
7 And the sons of Halaa, Sereth, Isaar, and Ethnan.
7 Helah's sons were Zereth, Zohar, Ethnan,
8 And Cos begot Anob, and Soboba, and the kindred of Aharehel the son of Arum.
8 and Koz, who had Anub, Hazzobebah, and the families of Aharhel son of Harum.
9 And Jabes was more honourable than any of his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabes, saying: Because I bore him with sorrow.
9 Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, "A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!"
10 And Jabes called upon the God of Israel, saying: If blessing thou wilt bless me, and wilt enlarge my borders, and thy hand be with me, and thou save me from being oppressed by evil. And God granted him the things he prayed for.
10 Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection - don't let evil hurt me." God gave him what he asked.
11 And Caleb the brother of Sua begot Mahir, who was the father of Esthon.
11 Kelub, Shuhah's brother, had Mehir; Mehir had Eshton;
12 And Esthon begot Bethrapha, and Phesse, and Tehinna father of the city of Naas: these are the men of Recha.
12 Eshton had Beth Rapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, who founded Ir Nahash (City of Smiths). These were known as the men of Recah.
13 And the sons of Cenez were Othoniel, and Saraia. And the sons of Othoniel, Hathath, and Maonathi.
13 The sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel: Hathath and Meonothai.
14 Maonathi begot Ophra, and Saraia begot Joab the father of the Valley of artificers: for artificers were there.
14 Meonothai had Ophrah; Seraiah had Joab, the founder of Ge Harashim (Colony of Artisans).
15 And the sons of Caleb the son of Jephone, were Hir, and Ela, and Naham. And the sons of Ela: Cenez.
15 The sons of Caleb son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam. The son of Elah: Kenaz.
16 The sons also of Jaleleel: Ziph, and Zipha, Thiria and Asrael.
16 The sons of Jehallelel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asarel.
17 And the sons of Esra, Jether, and Mered, and Epher, and Jalon, and he begot Mariam, and Sammai, and Jesba the father of Esthamo.
17 The sons of Ezrah: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon. One of Mered's wives, Pharaoh's daughter Bithiah, gave birth to Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah the father of Eshtemoa.
18 And his wife Judaia, bore Jared the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Socho, and Icuthiel the father of Zanoe. And these are the sons of Bethia the daughter of Pharao, whom Mered took to wife.
18 His Judean wife gave birth to Jered father of Gedor, Heber father of Soco, and Jekuthiel father of Zanoah.
19 And the sons of his wife Odaia the sister of Naham the father of Celia, Garmi, and Esthamo, who was of Machathi.
19 The sons of Hodiah's wife, Naham's sister: the father of Keilah the Garmite, and Eshtemoa the Maacathite.
20 The sons also of Simon, Amnon, and Rinna the son of Hanan, and Thilon. And the sons of Jesi Zoheth, and Benzoheth.
20 The sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Ben-Hanan, and Tilon. The sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Ben-Zoheth.
21 The sons of Sela the son of Juda: Her the father of Lecha, and Laada the father of Maresa, and the families of the house of them that wrought fine linen in the House of oath.

23 These are the potters, and they dwelt in Plantations, and Hedges, with the king for his works, and they abode there.
23 They were the potters who lived at Netaim and Gederah, resident potters who worked for the king.
24 The sons of Simeon: Namuel and Jamin, Jarib, Zara, Saul:
24 The Simeon family tree: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, and Shaul;
25 Sellum his son, Mapsam his son, Masma his son.
25 Shaul had Shallum, Shallum had Mibsam, and Mibsam had Mishma.
26 The sons of Masma: Hamuel his son, Zachur his son, Semei his son.
26 The sons of Mishma: Hammuel had Zaccur and Zaccur had Shimei.
27 The sons of Semei were sixteen, and six daughters: but his brethren had not many sons, and the whole kindred could not reach to the sum of the children of Juda.
27 Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brothers were not nearly as prolific and never became a large family like Judah.
28 And they dwelt in Bersabee, and Molada, and Hasarsuhal,
28 They lived in Beersheba, Moladah, Hazar Shual,
29 And in Bala, and in Asom, and in Tholad,
29 Bilhah, Ezem, Tolad,
30 And in Bathuel, and in Horma, and in Siceleg,
30 Bethuel, Hormah, Ziklag,
31 And in Bethmarchaboth, and in Hasarsusim, and in Bethberai, and in Saarim. These were their cities unto the reign of David.
31 Beth Marcaboth, Hazar Susim, Beth Biri, and Shaaraim. They lived in these towns until David became king.
32 Their towns also were Etam, and Aen, Remmon, and Thochen, and Asan, five cities.
32 Other settlements in the vicinity were the five towns of Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Token, and Ashan,
33 And all their villages round about these cities as far as Baal. This was their habitation, and the distribution of their dwellings.
33 and all the villages around these towns as far as Baalath. These were their settlements. And they kept good family records.
34 And Mosabab and Jemlech, and Josaphat, the son of Amasias,
34 Meshobab; Jamlech; Joshah the son of Amaziah;
35 And Joel, and Jehu the son of Josabia the son of Saraia, the son of Asiel,
35 Joel; Jehu the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel;
36 And Elioenai, and Jacoba, and Isuhaia, and Asaia, and Adiel, and Ismiel, and Banaia,
36 Elioenai; Jaakobah; Jeshohaiah; Asaiah; Adiel; Jesimiel; Benaiah;
37 Ziza also the son of Sephei the son of Allon the son of Idaia the son of Semri the son of Samaia.
37 and Ziza the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah
38 These were named princes in their kindreds, and in the houses of their families were multiplied exceedingly.
38 - all these were the leaders in their families. They prospered and increased in numbers
39 And they went forth to enter into Gador as far as to the east side of the valley, to seek pastures for their flocks.
39 so that they had to go as far as Gedor (Gerar) to the east of the valley looking for pasture for their flocks.
40 And they found fat pastures, and very good, and a country spacious, and quiet, and fruitful, in which some of the race of Cham had dwelt before.
40 And they found it - lush pasture, lots of elbow room, peaceful and quiet.
41 And these whose names are written above, came in the days of Ezechias king of Juda: and they beat down their tents, and slew the inhabitants that were found there, and utterly destroyed them unto this day: and they dwelt in their place, because they found there fat pastures.
41 But the men in these family trees came when Hezekiah was king of Judah and attacked the Hamites, tearing down their tents and houses. There was nothing left of them, as you can see today. Then they moved in and took over because of the great pastureland.
42 Some also of the children of Simeon, five hundred men, went into mount Seir, having for their captains Phaltias and Naaria and Raphaia and Oziel the sons of Jesi:
42 Five hundred of these Simeonites went on and invaded the hill country of Seir, led by Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.
43 And they slew the remnant of the Amalecites, who had been able to escape, and they dwelt there in their stead unto this day.
43 They killed all the escaped Amalekites who were still around. And they still live there.
