1 Los filisteos pelearon contra Israel y los hombres de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

2 Los filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, los arqueros lo alcanzaron y fue herido por ellos.

4 Entonces Saúl dijo a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan burla de mí. Pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Por lo cual Saúl tomó su espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 Al ver su escudero que Saúl había muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y murió.

6 Así murió Saúl con sus tres hijos, y todos los de su casa murieron juntamente con él.

7 Cuando todos los hombres de Israel que estaban en el valle, vieron que ellos habían huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron; entonces los filisteos vinieron y habitaron en ellas.

8 Y sucedió que al día siguiente, cuando vinieron los filisteos para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.

9 Lo despojaron, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para que llevaran las buenas nuevas a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 Pusieron su armadura en la casa de sus dioses y clavaron su cabeza en la casa de Dagón.

11 Cuando oyeron los de Jabes de Galaad todo lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

12 se levantaron todos los hombres valientes y se llevaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, los trajeron a Jabes y enterraron sus huesos bajo la encina en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

13 Así murió Saúl por la transgresión que cometió contra el SEÑOR por no haber guardado la palabra del SEÑOR, y también porque consultó y pidió consejo a una médium,

14 y no consultó al SEÑOR. Por tanto, El le quitó la vida y transfirió el reino a David, hijo de Isaí.

1 The Philistines went to war against Israel; the Israelites ran for their lives from the Philistines but fell, slaughtered on Mount Gilboa.

2 The Philistines zeroed in on Saul and his sons and killed his sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

3 The battle went hard against Saul - the archers found him and wounded him.

4 Saul said to his armor bearer, "Draw your sword and finish me off before these pagan pigs get to me and make a sport of my body." But his armor bearer, restrained by both reverence and fear, wouldn't do it.

5 The armor bearer, panicked because Saul was dead, then killed himself.

6 So Saul and his three sons - all four the same day - died.

7 When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities and ran off; the Philistines came and moved in.

8 The next day the Philistines came to plunder the dead bodies and found Saul and his sons dead on Mount Gilboa.

9 They stripped Saul, removed his head and his armor, and put them on exhibit throughout Philistia, reporting the victory news to their idols and the people.

10 Then they put Saul's armor on display in the temple of their gods and placed his skull as a trophy in the temple of their god Dagon.

11 The people of Jabesh Gilead heard what the Philistines had done to Saul.

12 All of their fighting men went into action - retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh, gave them a dignified burial under the oak at Jabesh, and mourned their deaths for seven days.

13 Saul died in disobedience, disobedient to God. He didn't obey God's words. Instead of praying, he went to a witch to seek guidance.

14 Because he didn't go to God for help, God took his life and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
