1 Y estos son los que vinieron a David en Siclag, mientras aún se ocultaba por causa de Saúl, hijo de Cis. Eran de los hombres valientes que le ayudaron en la guerra.

2 Estaban armados con arcos, y usaban tanto la mano derecha como la izquierda para lanzar piedras y tirar flechas con el arco. Eran parientes de Saúl de Benjamín.

3 El jefe era Ahiezer, después Joás, hijos de Semaa guibeatita; Jeziel y Pelet, hijos de Azmavet; Beraca y Jehú anatotita;

4 Ismaías gabaonita, hombre valiente entre los treinta, y jefe de los treinta. Después Jeremías, Jahaziel, Johanán, Jozabad gederatita,

5 Eluzai, Jerimot, Bealías, Semarías, Sefatías harufita,

7 y Joela y Zebadías, hijos de Jeroham de Gedor.

8 También de los de Gad se pasaron a David en la fortaleza en el desierto, hombres fuertes y valientes, entrenados para la guerra, diestros con el escudo y la lanza, cuyos rostros eran como rostros de leones, y eran tan ligeros como las gacelas sobre los montes.

9 Ezer fue el primero, Obadías el segundo, Eliab el tercero,

10 Mismana el cuarto, Jeremías el quinto,

11 Atai el sexto, Eliel el séptimo,

12 Johanán el octavo, Elzabad el noveno,

13 Jeremías el décimo, Macbanai el undécimo.

14 De los hijos de Gad, éstos fueron capitanes del ejército; el menor valía por cien y el mayor por mil.

15 Estos son los que cruzaron el Jordán en el primer mes, cuando inundaba todas sus riberas, y pusieron en fuga a todos los de los valles, tanto al oriente como al occidente.

16 Entonces vinieron algunos de los hijos de Benjamín y Judá a David a la fortaleza.

17 Y salió David a su encuentro, y les habló, diciendo: Si venís a mí en paz para ayudarme, mi corazón se unirá con vosotros; pero si venís para entregarme a mis enemigos, ya que no hay maldad en mis manos, que el Dios de nuestros padres lo vea y decida.

18 Entonces el Espíritu vino sobre Amasai, jefe de los treinta, el cual dijo: Tuyos somos, oh David, y contigo estamos, hijo de Isaí. Paz, paz a ti, y paz al que te ayuda; ciertamente tu Dios te ayuda. Entonces David los recibió y los hizo capitanes del grupo.

19 Algunos de Manasés se pasaron también a David, cuando éste iba con los filisteos a la batalla contra Saúl. Pero éstos no les ayudaron, porque los príncipes de los filisteos, después de tomar consejo, lo despidieron, diciendo: A costa de nuestras cabezas se pasará a su señor Saúl.

20 Y cuando él iba a Siclag, se pasaron a él de Manasés: Adnas, Jozabad, Jediaiel, Micael, Jozabad, Eliú y Ziletai, capitanes de miles que eran de Manasés.

21 Ellos ayudaron a David contra la banda de merodeadores, pues todos eran hombres fuertes y valientes, y fueron capitanes en el ejército.

22 Porque día tras día se pasaban hombres a David para ayudarlo, hasta que hubo un gran ejército, como un ejército de Dios.

23 Y estos son los números de los escuadrones equipados para la guerra, que vinieron a David en Hebrón para transferirle el reino de Saúl, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR:

24 Los hijos de Judá que llevaban escudo y lanza eran seis mil ochocientos, equipados para la guerra.

25 De los hijos de Simeón, hombres fuertes y valientes para la guerra, siete mil cien.

26 De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil seiscientos.

27 Y Joiada, príncipe de la casa de Aarón, y con él tres mil setecientos;

28 también Sadoc, joven fuerte y valiente, y de la casa de su padre veintidós capitanes.

29 De los hijos de Benjamín, parientes de Saúl, tres mil; porque hasta entonces la mayor parte de ellos habían permanecido fieles a la casa de Saúl.

30 De los hijos de Efraín, veinte mil ochocientos, hombres fuertes y valientes, famosos en sus casas paternas.

31 De la media tribu de Manasés, dieciocho mil, que por nombre fueron designados para venir y hacer rey a David.

32 De los hijos de Isacar, expertos en discernir los tiempos, con conocimiento de lo que Israel debía hacer, sus jefes eran doscientos; y todos sus parientes estaban bajo sus órdenes.

33 De Zabulón había cincuenta mil que salieron con el ejército, que podían ponerse en orden de batalla con toda clase de armas de guerra y que ayudaron a David sin doblez de corazón.

34 De Neftalí había mil capitanes, y con ellos treinta y siete mil con escudo y lanza.

35 De los de Dan que podían ponerse en orden de batalla, había veintiocho mil seiscientos.

36 De Aser había cuarenta mil que salieron con el ejército para ponerse en orden de batalla.

37 Y del otro lado del Jordán de los rubenitas y gaditas y de la media tribu de Manasés, había ciento veinte mil con toda clase de armas de guerra para la batalla.

38 Todos éstos, hombres de guerra, que podían ponerse en orden de batalla, vinieron con corazón perfecto a Hebrón, para hacer rey a David sobre todo Israel; también todos los demás de Israel eran de un mismo parecer para hacer rey a David.

39 Y estuvieron allí con David tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, porque sus parientes habían hecho provisión para ellos.

40 También, los que estaban cerca de ellos, y hasta Isacar, Zabulón y Neftalí, trajeron víveres en asnos, camellos, mulos y bueyes; grandes cantidades de tortas de harina, tortas de higos y racimos de uvas pasas, vino, aceite, bueyes y ovejas. Verdaderamente había alegría en Israel.

1 These are the men who joined David in Ziklag; it was during the time he was banished by Saul the son of Kish; they were among the Mighty Men, good fighters.

2 They were armed with bows and could sling stones and shoot arrows either right- or left-handed. They hailed from Saul's tribe, Benjamin.

3 The first was Ahiezer; then Joash son of Shemaah the Gibeathite; Jeziel and Pelet the sons of Azmaveth; Beracah; Jehu the Anathothite;

4 Ishmaiah the Gibeonite, a Mighty Man among the Thirty, a leader of the Thirty; Jeremiah; Jahaziel; Johanan; Jozabad the Gederathite;

5 Eluzai; Jerimoth; Bealiah; Shemariah; Shephatiah the Haruphite;

6 Elkanah; Isshiah; Azarel; Joezer; Jashobeam; the Korahites;

8 There were some Gadites there who had defected to David at his wilderness fortress; they were seasoned and eager fighters who knew how to handle shield and spear. They were wild in appearance, like lions, but as agile as gazelles racing across the hills.

12 Johanan, Elzabad,

13 Jeremiah, and Macbannai - eleven of them.

18 Just then Amasai chief of the Thirty, moved by God's Spirit, said, We're on your side, O David, We're committed, O son of Jesse; All is well, yes, all is well with you, And all's well with whoever helps you. Yes, for your God has helped and does help you. So David took them on and assigned them a place under the chiefs of the raiders.

19 Some from the tribe of Manasseh also defected to David when he started out with the Philistines to go to war against Saul. In the end, they didn't actually fight because the Philistine leaders, after talking it over, sent them home, saying, "We can't trust them with our lives - they'll betray us to their master Saul."

20 The men from Manasseh who defected to David at Ziklag were Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zillethai, all leaders among the families of Manasseh.

21 They helped David in his raids against the desert bandits; they were all stalwart fighters and good leaders among his raiders.

22 Hardly a day went by without men showing up to help - it wasn't long before his band seemed as large as God's own army!

23 Here are the statistics on the battle-seasoned warriors who came down from the north to David at Hebron to hand over Saul's kingdom, in accord with God's word:

24 from Judah, carrying shield and spear, 6,800 battle-ready;

25 from Simeon, 7,100 stalwart fighters;

26 from Levi, 4,600,

27 which included Jehoiada leader of the family of Aaron, bringing 3,700 men

28 and the young and stalwart Zadok with twenty-two leaders from his family;

29 from Benjamin, Saul's family, 3,000, most of whom had stuck it out with Saul until now;

30 from Ephraim, 20,800, fierce fighters and famous in their hometowns;

31 from the half-tribe of Manasseh, 18,000 elected to come and make David king;

32 from Issachar, men who understood both the times and Israel's duties, 200 leaders with their families;

33 from Zebulun, 50,000 well-equipped veteran warriors, unswervingly loyal;

34 from Naphtali, 1,000 chiefs leading 37,000 men heavily armed;

35 from Dan, 28,600 battle-ready men;

36 from Asher, 40,000 veterans, battle-ready;

37 and from East of Jordan, men from Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, heavily armed, 120,000.

38 All these soldiers came to David at Hebron, ready to fight if necessary; they were both united and determined to make David king over all Israel. And everyone else in Israel was of the same mind - "Make David king!"

39 They were with David for three days of feasting celebration, with food and drink supplied by their families.

40 Neighbors ranging from as far north as Issachar, Zebulun, and Naphtali arrived with donkeys, camels, mules, and oxen loaded down with food for the party: flour, fig cakes, raisin cakes, wine, oil, cattle, and sheep - joy in Israel! David Goes to Get the Chest of God
