1 Además, David y los jefes del ejército separaron para el servicio a algunos de los hijos de Asaf, de Hemán y de Jedutún, que habían de profetizar con liras, arpas y címbalos; y el número de éstos, conforme a su servicio fue:

2 de los hijos de Asaf: Zacur, José, Netanías y Asarela; los hijos de Asaf estaban bajo la dirección de Asaf, que profetizaba bajo la dirección del rey.

3 De Jedutún, los hijos de Jedutún: Gedalías, Zeri, Jesaías, Simei, Hasabías y Matatías: seis, bajo la dirección de su padre Jedutún con la lira, que profetizaban dando gracias y alabando al SEÑOR.

4 De Hemán, los hijos de Hemán: Buquías, Matanías, Uziel, Sebuel, Jeremot, Hananías, Hananí, Eliata, Gidalti, Romanti-ezer, Josbecasa, Maloti, Hotir y Mahaziot.

5 Todos éstos fueron los hijos de Hemán, el vidente del rey, para ensalzarle conforme a las palabras de Dios, porque Dios dio a Hemán catorce hijos y tres hijas.

6 Todos éstos estaban bajo la dirección de su padre para cantar en la casa del SEÑOR, con címbalos, arpas y liras, para el servicio de la casa de Dios. Asaf, Jedutún y Hemán estaban bajo la dirección del rey.

7 El número de los que fueron instruidos en el canto al SEÑOR, con sus parientes, todos los que eran hábiles, fue de doscientos ochenta y ocho.

8 Y echaron suertes para designar sus cargos, todos por igual, tanto el pequeño como el grande, tanto el maestro como el discípulo.

9 La primera suerte salió para José, de la casa de Asaf; la segunda para Gedalías que con sus parientes e hijos fueron doce;

10 la tercera para Zacur, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

11 la cuarta para Izri, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

12 la quinta para Netanías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

13 la sexta para Buquías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

14 la séptima para Jesarela, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

15 la octava para Jesahías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

16 la novena para Matanías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

17 la décima para Simei, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

18 la undécima para Azareel, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

19 la duodécima para Hasabías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

20 para la decimotercera, Subael, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

21 para la decimocuarta, Matatías, sus hijos y sus parientes: doce;

1 Next David and the worship leaders selected some from the family of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun for special service in preaching and music. Here is the roster of names and assignments:

2 From the family of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah; they were supervised by Asaph, who spoke for God backed up by the king's authority.

3 From the family of Jeduthun there were six sons: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah; they were supervised by their father Jeduthun, who preached and accompanied himself with the zither - he was responsible for leading the thanks and praise to God.

4 From the family of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shubael, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-Ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.

5 These were the sons of Heman the king's seer; they supported and assisted him in his divinely appointed work. God gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6 Under their father's supervision they were in charge of leading the singing and providing musical accompaniment in the work of worship in the sanctuary of God (Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman took their orders directly from the king).

7 They were well-trained in the sacred music, all of them masters. There were 288 of them.

8 They drew names at random to see who would do what. Nobody, whether young or old, teacher or student, was given preference or advantage over another.

9 The first name from Asaph's family was Joseph and his twelve sons and brothers; second, Gedaliah and his twelve sons and brothers;

10 third, Zaccur and his twelve sons and brothers;

11 fourth, Izri and his twelve sons and brothers;

12 fifth, Nethaniah and his twelve sons and brothers;

13 sixth, Bukkiah and his twelve sons and brothers;

14 seventh, Jesarelah and his twelve sons and brothers;

15 eighth, Jeshaiah and his twelve sons and brothers;

16 ninth, Mattaniah and his twelve sons and brothers;

17 tenth, Shimei and his twelve sons and brothers;

18 eleventh, Azarel and his twelve sons and brothers;

19 twelfth, Hashabiah and his twelve sons and brothers;

20 thirteenth, Shubael and his twelve sons and brothers;
