1 Hijitos míos, os escribo estas cosas para que no pequéis. Y si alguno peca, Abogado tenemos para con el Padre, a Jesucristo el justo.

2 El mismo es la propiciación por nuestros pecados, y no sólo por los nuestros, sino también por los del mundo entero.

3 Y en esto sabemos que hemos llegado a conocerle: si guardamos sus mandamientos.

4 El que dice: Yo he llegado a conocerle, y no guarda sus mandamientos, es un mentiroso y la verdad no está en él;

5 pero el que guarda su palabra, en él verdaderamente el amor de Dios se ha perfeccionado. En esto sabemos que estamos en El.

6 El que dice que permanece en El, debe andar como El anduvo.

7 Amados, no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, sino un mandamiento antiguo, que habéis tenido desde el principio; el mandamiento antiguo es la palabra que habéis oído.

8 Por otra parte, os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, el cual es verdadero en El y en vosotros, porque las tinieblas van pasando, y la luz verdadera ya está alumbrando.

9 El que dice que está en la luz, y aborrece a su hermano, está aún en tinieblas.

10 El que ama a su hermano, permanece en la luz y no hay causa de tropiezo en él.

11 Pero el que aborrece a su hermano, está en tinieblas y anda en tinieblas, y no sabe adónde va, porque las tinieblas han cegado sus ojos.

12 Os escribo a vosotros, hijos, porque vuestros pecados os han sido perdonados por su nombre.

13 Os escribo a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio. Os escribo a vosotros, jóvenes, porque habéis vencido al maligno. Os he escrito a vosotros, niños, porque conocéis al Padre.

14 Os he escrito a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que ha sido desde el principio. Os he escrito a vosotros, jóvenes, porque sois fuertes y la palabra de Dios permanece en vosotros y habéis vencido al maligno.

15 No améis al mundo ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él.

16 Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la pasión de la carne, la pasión de los ojos y la arrogancia de la vida, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo.

17 Y el mundo pasa, y también sus pasiones, pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre.

18 Hijitos, es la última hora, y así como oísteis que el anticristo viene, también ahora han surgido muchos anticristos; por eso sabemos que es la última hora.

19 Salieron de nosotros, pero en realidad no eran de nosotros, porque si hubieran sido de nosotros, habrían permanecido con nosotros; pero salieron, a fin de que se manifestara que no todos son de nosotros.

20 Pero vosotros tenéis unción del Santo, y todos vosotros lo sabéis .

21 No os he escrito porque ignoréis la verdad, sino porque la conocéis y porque ninguna mentira procede de la verdad.

22 ¿Quién es el mentiroso, sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo? Este es el anticristo, el que niega al Padre y al Hijo.

23 Todo aquel que niega al Hijo tampoco tiene al Padre; el que confiesa al Hijo tiene también al Padre.

24 En cuanto a vosotros, que permanezca en vosotros lo que oísteis desde el principio. Si lo que oísteis desde el principio permanece en vosotros, vosotros también permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre.

25 Y esta es la promesa que El mismo nos hizo: la vida eterna.

26 Os he escrito estas cosas respecto a los que están tratando de engañaros.

27 Y en cuanto a vosotros, la unción que recibisteis de El permanece en vosotros, y no tenéis necesidad de que nadie os enseñe; pero así como su unción os enseña acerca de todas las cosas, y es verdadera y no mentira, y así como os ha enseñado, permanecéis en El.

28 Y ahora, hijos, permaneced en El, para que cuando se manifieste, tengamos confianza y no nos apartemos de El avergonzados en su venida.

29 Si sabéis que El es justo, sabéis también que todo el que hace justicia es nacido de El.

1 I write this, dear children, to guide you out of sin. But if anyone does sin, we have a Priest-Friend in the presence of the Father: Jesus Christ, righteous Jesus.

2 When he served as a sacrifice for our sins, he solved the sin problem for good - not only ours, but the whole world's.

3 Here's how we can be sure that we know God in the right way: Keep his commandments.

4 If someone claims, "I know him well!" but doesn't keep his commandments, he's obviously a liar. His life doesn't match his words.

5 But the one who keeps God's word is the person in whom we see God's mature love. This is the only way to be sure we're in God.

6 Anyone who claims to be intimate with God ought to live the same kind of life Jesus lived.

7 My dear friends, I'm not writing anything new here. This is the oldest commandment in the book, and you've known it from day one. It's always been implicit in the Message you've heard.

8 On the other hand, perhaps it is new, freshly minted as it is in both Christ and you - the darkness on its way out and the True Light already blazing!

9 Anyone who claims to live in God's light and hates a brother or sister is still in the dark.

10 It's the person who loves brother and sister who dwells in God's light and doesn't block the light from others.

11 But whoever hates is still in the dark, stumbles around in the dark, doesn't know which end is up, blinded by the darkness.

12 I remind you, my dear children: Your sins are forgiven in Jesus' name.

13 You veterans were in on the ground floor, and know the One who started all this; you newcomers have won a big victory over the Evil One.

14 You veterans know the One who started it all; and you newcomers - such vitality and strength! God's word is so steady in you. Your fellowship with God enables you to gain a victory over the Evil One.

15 Don't love the world's ways. Don't love the world's goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father.

16 Practically everything that goes on in the world - wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important - has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him.

17 The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out - but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.

18 Children, time is just about up. You heard that Antichrist is coming. Well, they're all over the place, antichrists everywhere you look. That's how we know that we're close to the end.

19 They left us, but they were never really with us. If they had been, they would have stuck it out with us, loyal to the end. In leaving, they showed their true colors, showed they never did belong.

20 But you belong. The Holy One anointed you, and you all know it.

21 I haven't been writing this to tell you something you don't know, but to confirm the truth you do know, and to remind you that the truth doesn't breed lies.

22 So who is lying here? It's the person who denies that Jesus is the Divine Christ, that's who. This is what makes an antichrist: denying the Father, denying the Son.

23 No one who denies the Son has any part with the Father, but affirming the Son is an embrace of the Father as well.

24 Stay with what you heard from the beginning, the original message. Let it sink into your life. If what you heard from the beginning lives deeply in you, you will live deeply in both Son and Father.

25 This is exactly what Christ promised: eternal life, real life!

26 I've written to warn you about those who are trying to deceive you.

27 But they're no match for what is embedded deeply within you - Christ's anointing, no less! You don't need any of their so-called teaching. Christ's anointing teaches you the truth on everything you need to know about yourself and him, uncontaminated by a single lie. Live deeply in what you were taught.

28 And now, children, stay with Christ. Live deeply in Christ. Then we'll be ready for him when he appears, ready to receive him with open arms, with no cause for red-faced guilt or lame excuses when he arrives.

29 Once you're convinced that he is right and righteous, you'll recognize that all who practice righteousness are God's true children.
