1 Por aquel tiempo Abías, hijo de Jeroboam, se enfermó.

2 Y Jeroboam dijo a su mujer: Levántate ahora y disfrázate para que no conozcan que eres la mujer de Jeroboam, y ve a Silo; he aquí, allí está el profeta Ahías, que dijo de mí que yo sería rey sobre este pueblo.

3 Toma en tus manos diez panes, tortas y un jarro de miel, y ve a él. El te dirá lo que le ha de suceder al niño.

4 Así lo hizo la mujer de Jeroboam; se levantó, fue a Silo y llegó a casa de Ahías. Y Ahías no podía ver porque sus ojos se habían nublado a causa de su vejez.

5 Mas el SEÑOR había dicho a Ahías: He aquí, la mujer de Jeroboam viene a consultarte sobre su hijo, pues está enfermo. Esto y esto le dirás, pues será que cuando ella venga, fingirá ser otra mujer.

6 Y sucedió que cuando Ahías oyó el ruido de los pasos de ella al entrar por la puerta, dijo: Entra, mujer de Jeroboam. ¿Por qué finges ser otra mujer? Pues he sido enviado a ti con un duro mensaje.

7 Ve, di a Jeroboam: "Así dice el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel: 'Por cuanto te levanté de entre el pueblo y te hice príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel,

8 y arranqué el reino de la casa de David y te lo di a ti, pero tú no has sido como mi siervo David, que guardó mis mandamientos y me siguió de todo corazón, para hacer sólo lo que era recto a mis ojos;

9 sino que has hecho más mal que todos los que fueron antes de ti, y fuiste e hiciste para ti otros dioses e imágenes fundidas para provocarme a ira, y me arrojaste detrás de tus espaldas;

10 por tanto, he aquí, traigo mal sobre la casa de Jeroboam, y cortaré de Jeroboam a todo varón, tanto esclavo como libre en Israel; barreré completamente la casa de Jeroboam, como se barre el estiércol hasta que desaparece del todo.

11 'Cualquiera de los de Jeroboam que muera en la ciudad, se lo comerán los perros. Y el que muera en el campo, se lo comerán las aves del cielo; porque el SEÑOR ha hablado.'"

12 Y tú, levántate, vete a tu casa. Cuando tus pies entren en la ciudad, el niño morirá.

13 Y todo Israel hará duelo por él y lo sepultarán, pues sólo éste de la familia de Jeroboam irá a la sepultura, porque de la casa de Jeroboam, sólo en él fue hallado algo bueno hacia el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

14 Y el SEÑOR levantará para sí un rey sobre Israel que destruirá la casa de Jeroboam en este día, y de ahora en adelante.

15 El SEÑOR, pues, herirá a Israel, como se agita una caña en el agua, y El arrancará a Israel de esta buena tierra que dio a sus padres, y los esparcirá más allá del río Eufrates, porque han hecho sus Aseras , provocando a ira al SEÑOR.

16 Y abandonará a Israel a causa de los pecados que cometió Jeroboam y con los cuales hizo pecar a Israel.

17 Entonces la mujer de Jeroboam se levantó, se fue y llegó a Tirsa. Y al entrar ella por el umbral de la casa, el niño murió.

18 Y todo Israel lo sepultó e hizo duelo por él, conforme a la palabra que el SEÑOR había hablado por medio de su siervo, el profeta Ahías.

19 Los demás hechos de Jeroboam, cómo guerreó y cómo reinó, he aquí, están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

20 El tiempo que Jeroboam reinó fue veintidós años, y durmió con sus padres; y su hijo Nadab reinó en su lugar.

21 Y Roboam, hijo de Salomón, reinó en Judá. Roboam tenía cuarenta y un años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó diecisiete años en Jerusalén, la ciudad que el SEÑOR había escogido de entre todas las tribus de Israel para poner allí su nombre. El nombre de su madre era Naama, amonita.

22 Judá hizo lo malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y le provocaron a celos más que todo lo que sus padres le habían provocado con los pecados que habían hecho.

23 Porque ellos también edificaron para sí lugares altos, pilares sagrados y Aseras en toda colina alta y bajo todo árbol frondoso.

24 Hubo también en la tierra sodomitas de cultos paganos. Hicieron conforme a todas las abominaciones de las naciones que el SEÑOR había echado delante de los hijos de Israel.

25 Y sucedió que en el quinto año del rey Roboam, Sisac, rey de Egipto, subió contra Jerusalén.

26 Y tomó los tesoros de la casa del SEÑOR y los tesoros del palacio del rey; se apoderó de todo, llevándose aun todos los escudos de oro que había hecho Salomón.

27 Entonces el rey Roboam hizo escudos de bronce en su lugar, y los entregó al cuidado de los jefes de la guardia que custodiaban la entrada de la casa del rey.

28 Y sucedía que cuando el rey entraba en la casa del SEÑOR, los de la guardia los llevaban; después los devolvían a la sala de los de la guardia.

29 Los demás hechos de Roboam y todo lo que hizo, ¿no están escritos en el libro de las Crónicas de los reyes de Judá?

30 Y hubo guerra continua entre Roboam y Jeroboam.

31 Y durmió Roboam con sus padres y fue sepultado con sus padres en la ciudad de David; y el nombre de su madre era Naama, amonita. Y su hijo Abiam reinó en su lugar.

The Message Bible MSG

1 At about this time Jeroboam's son Abijah came down sick.

2 Jeroboam said to his wife, "Do something. Disguise yourself so no one will know you are the queen and go to Shiloh. Ahijah the prophet lives there, the same Ahijah who told me I'd be king over this people.

3 Take along ten loaves of bread, some sweet rolls, and a jug of honey. Make a visit to him and he'll tell you what's going on with our boy."

4 Jeroboam's wife did as she was told; she went straight to Shiloh and to Ahijah's house. Ahijah was an old man at this time, and blind,

5 but God had warned Ahijah, "Jeroboam's wife is on her way to consult with you regarding her sick son; tell her this and this and this."

6 Ahijah heard her come through the door and said, "Welcome, wife of Jeroboam! But why the deception? I've got bad news for you.

7 Go and deliver this message I received firsthand from God, the God of Israel, to Jeroboam: I raised you up from obscurity and made you the leader of my people Israel.

8 I ripped the kingdom from the hands of David's family and gave it to you, but you weren't at all like my servant David who did what I told him and lived from his undivided heart, pleasing me.

9 Instead you've set a new record in works of evil by making alien gods - tin gods! Pushing me aside and turning your back - you've made me mighty angry.

10 "And I'll not put up with it: I'm bringing doom on the household of Jeroboam, killing the lot of them right down to the last male wretch in Israel, whether slave or free. They've become nothing but garbage and I'm getting rid of them.

11 The ones who die in the city will be eaten by stray dogs; the ones who die out in the country will be eaten by carrion crows. God's decree!

12 "And that's it. Go on home - the minute you step foot in town, the boy will die.

13 Everyone will come to his burial, mourning his death. He is the only one in Jeroboam's family who will get a decent burial; he's the only one for whom God, the God of Israel, has a good word to say.

14 "Then God will appoint a king over Israel who will wipe out Jeroboam's family, wipe them right off the map - doomsday for Jeroboam!

15 He will hit Israel hard, as a storm slaps reeds about; he'll pull them up by the roots from this good land of their inheritance, weeding them out, and then scatter them to the four winds. And why? Because they made God so angry with Asherah sex-and-religion shrines.

16 He'll wash his hands of Israel because of Jeroboam's sins, which have led Israel into a life of sin."

17 Jeroboam's wife left and went home to Tirzah. The moment she stepped through the door, the boy died.

18 They buried him and everyone mourned his death, just as God had said through his servant the prophet Ahijah.

19 The rest of Jeroboam's life, the wars he fought and the way he ruled, is written in The Chronicles of the Kings of Israel.

20 He ruled for twenty-two years. He died and was buried with his ancestors. Nadab his son was king after him.

21 Rehoboam son of Solomon was king in Judah. He was forty-one years old when he took the throne and was king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city God selected from all the tribes of Israel for the worship of his Name. Rehoboam's mother was Naamah, an Ammonite.

22 Judah was openly wicked before God, making him very angry. They set new records in sin, surpassing anything their ancestors had done.

23 They built Asherah sex-and-religion shrines and set up sacred stones all over the place - on hills, under trees, wherever you looked.

24 Worse, they had male sacred prostitutes, polluting the country outrageously - all the stuff that God had gotten rid of when he brought Israel into the land.

25 In the fifth year of King Rehoboam's rule, Shishak king of Egypt made war against Jerusalem.

26 He plundered The Temple of God and the royal palace of their treasures, cleaned them out - even the gold shields that Solomon had made.

27 King Rehoboam replaced them with bronze shields and outfitted the royal palace guards with them.

28 Whenever the king went to God's Temple, the guards carried the shields but always returned them to the guardroom.

29 The rest of Rehoboam's life, what he said and did, is all written in The Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

30 There was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam the whole time.

31 Rehoboam died and was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. His mother was Naamah, an Ammonite. His son Abijah ruled after him.
