1 Entonces Salomón reunió a los ancianos de Israel, a todos los jefes de las tribus y a los principales de las casas paternas de los hijos de Israel ante él en Jerusalén, para hacer subir el arca del pacto del SEÑOR de la ciudad de David, la cual es Sion.

2 Y se reunieron ante el rey Salomón todos los hombres de Israel en la fiesta, en el mes de Etanim, que es el mes séptimo.

3 Cuando llegaron todos los ancianos de Israel, los sacerdotes alzaron el arca.

4 Subieron el arca del SEÑOR, la tienda de reunión y todos los utensilios sagrados que estaban en la tienda; los sacerdotes y los levitas los subieron.

5 Y el rey Salomón y toda la congregación de Israel que estaba reunida ante él, estaban con él delante del arca, sacrificando tantas ovejas y bueyes que no se podían contar ni numerar.

6 Entonces los sacerdotes trajeron el arca del pacto del SEÑOR a su lugar, al santuario interior de la casa, al lugar santísimo, bajo las alas de los querubines.

7 Porque los querubines extendían las alas sobre el lugar del arca, y los querubines cubrían el arca y sus barras por encima.

8 Pero las barras eran tan largas que los extremos de las barras se podían ver desde el lugar santo, que estaba delante del santuario interior, mas no se podían ver desde afuera; y allí están hasta hoy.

9 En el arca no había más que las dos tablas de piedra que Moisés puso allí en Horeb, donde el SEÑOR hizo pacto con los hijos de Israel cuando salieron de la tierra de Egipto.

10 Y sucedió que cuando los sacerdotes salieron del lugar santo, la nube llenó la casa del SEÑOR

11 y los sacerdotes no pudieron quedarse a ministrar a causa de la nube, porque la gloria del SEÑOR llenaba la casa del SEÑOR.

12 Entonces Salomón dijo: El SEÑOR ha dicho que El moraría en la densa nube.

13 Ciertamente yo te he edificado una casa majestuosa, un lugar para tu morada para siempre.

14 Después el rey se volvió y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel, mientras toda la asamblea de Israel estaba de pie,

15 y dijo: Bendito sea el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, que habló por su boca a mi padre David y por su mano lo ha cumplido, cuando dijo:

16 "Desde el día en que saqué a mi pueblo Israel de Egipto, no escogí ninguna ciudad de entre todas las tribus de Israel en la cual edificar una casa para que mi nombre estuviera allí, mas escogí a David para que estuviera sobre mi pueblo Israel."

17 Y mi padre David tuvo en su corazón edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

18 Pero el SEÑOR dijo a mi padre David: "Por cuanto tuviste en tu corazón edificar una casa a mi nombre, bien hiciste en desearlo en tu corazón.

19 "Sin embargo, tú no edificarás la casa, sino que tu hijo que te nacerá, él edificará la casa a mi nombre."

20 Ahora el SEÑOR ha cumplido la palabra que había dicho, pues yo me he levantado en lugar de mi padre David y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como el SEÑOR prometió, y he edificado la casa al nombre del SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

21 Y he puesto allí un lugar para el arca, en la cual está el pacto del SEÑOR que El hizo con nuestros padres cuando los trajo de la tierra de Egipto.

22 Entonces Salomón se puso delante del altar del SEÑOR en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel y extendió las manos al cielo.

23 Y dijo: Oh SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú ni arriba en los cielos ni abajo en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y muestras misericordia a tus siervos que andan delante de ti con todo su corazón,

24 que has cumplido con tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste; ciertamente has hablado con tu boca y lo has cumplido con tu mano como sucede hoy.

25 Ahora pues, oh SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, cumple con tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste, diciendo: "No te faltará quien se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden su camino para andar delante de mí como tú has andado delante de mí."

26 Ahora pues, oh Dios de Israel, te ruego que se cumpla tu palabra que hablaste a tu siervo, mi padre David.

27 Pero, ¿morará verdaderamente Dios sobre la tierra? He aquí, los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no te pueden contener, cuánto menos esta casa que yo he edificado.

28 No obstante, atiende a la oración de tu siervo y a su súplica, oh SEÑOR Dios mío, para que oigas el clamor y la oración que tu siervo hace hoy delante de ti;

31 Si alguno peca contra su prójimo y se le exige juramento, y viene y jura delante de tu altar en esta casa,

32 escucha tú desde los cielos y obra y juzga a tus siervos, condenando al impío haciendo recaer su conducta sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo dándole conforme a su justicia.

33 Cuando tu pueblo Israel sea derrotado delante de un enemigo por haber pecado contra ti, si se vuelven a ti y confiesan tu nombre, y oran y te hacen súplica en esta casa,

34 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y hazlos volver a la tierra que diste a sus padres.

35 Cuando los cielos estén cerrados y no haya lluvia por haber ellos pecado contra ti, y oren hacia este lugar y confiesen tu nombre, y se vuelvan de su pecado cuando tú los aflijas,

36 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel; sí, enséñales el buen camino por el que deben andar. Y envía lluvia sobre tu tierra, la que diste a tu pueblo por heredad.

37 Si hay hambre en la tierra, si hay pestilencia, si hay tizón o añublo, langosta o saltamontes, si su enemigo los sitia en la tierra de sus ciudades , cualquier plaga, cualquier enfermedad que haya,

38 toda oración o toda súplica que sea hecha por cualquier hombre o por todo tu pueblo Israel, conociendo cada cual la aflicción de su corazón, y extendiendo sus manos hacia esta casa,

39 escucha tú desde los cielos, el lugar de tu morada, y perdona, actúa y da a cada uno conforme a todos sus caminos, ya que conoces su corazón (porque sólo tú conoces el corazón de todos los hijos de los hombres),

40 para que te teman todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que diste a nuestros padres.

41 También en cuanto al extranjero que no es de tu pueblo Israel, cuando venga de una tierra lejana a causa de tu nombre

42 (porque oirán de tu gran nombre, de tu mano poderosa y de tu brazo extendido), y venga a orar a esta casa,

43 escucha tú desde los cielos, el lugar de tu morada, y haz conforme a todo lo que el extranjero te pida, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre para que te teman, como te teme tu pueblo Israel, y para que sepan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que he edificado.

44 Cuando tu pueblo salga a la batalla contra su enemigo, por cualquier camino que tú los envíes, y oren al SEÑOR vueltos hacia la ciudad que tú has escogido y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre,

45 escucha desde los cielos su oración y su súplica, y hazles justicia.

46 Cuando pequen contra ti (pues no hay hombre que no peque) y estés airado contra ellos, y los entregues delante del enemigo, y éstos los lleven cautivos a la tierra del enemigo, lejos o cerca,

47 si recapacitan en la tierra adonde hayan sido llevados cautivos, y se arrepienten y te hacen súplica en la tierra de los que los llevaron cautivos, diciendo: "Hemos pecado y hemos cometido iniquidad, hemos obrado perversamente",

48 si se vuelven a ti con todo su corazón y con toda su alma en la tierra de sus enemigos que los llevaron cautivos, y oran a ti vueltos hacia la tierra que diste a sus padres, hacia la ciudad que has escogido, y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre,

49 entonces escucha tú desde los cielos, el lugar de tu morada, su oración y su súplica y hazles justicia,

50 y perdona a tu pueblo que ha pecado contra ti, todas las transgresiones que hayan cometido contra ti, y hazlos objeto de compasión ante los que los llevaron cautivos, para que tengan compasión de ellos

51 (porque ellos son tu pueblo y tu heredad que sacaste de Egipto, de en medio del horno de hierro).

52 Que tus ojos estén abiertos a la súplica de tu siervo y a la súplica de tu pueblo Israel, para escucharles siempre que te invoquen.

53 Pues tú los has separado de entre todos los pueblos de la tierra como tu heredad, como lo dijiste por medio de tu siervo Moisés, cuando sacaste a nuestros padres de Egipto, oh Señor DIOS.

54 Y sucedió que cuando Salomón terminó de decir toda esta oración y súplica al SEÑOR, se levantó de delante del altar del SEÑOR, de estar de rodillas con sus manos extendidas hacia el cielo.

55 Y se puso de pie y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel en alta voz, diciendo:

56 Bendito sea el SEÑOR, que ha dado reposo a su pueblo Israel, conforme a todo lo que prometió; ninguna palabra ha fallado de toda su buena promesa que hizo por medio de su siervo Moisés.

57 Que el SEÑOR nuestro Dios esté con nosotros, como estuvo con nuestros padres; que no nos deje ni nos abandone,

58 para que incline nuestro corazón hacia El, para que andemos en todos sus caminos y para que guardemos sus mandamientos, sus estatutos y sus preceptos que ordenó a nuestros padres.

59 Y que estas palabras mías, con las que he suplicado delante del SEÑOR, estén cerca del SEÑOR nuestro Dios día y noche, para que El haga justicia a su siervo y justicia a su pueblo Israel, según las necesidades de cada día,

60 a fin de que todos los pueblos de la tierra sepan que el SEÑOR es Dios; no hay otro.

61 Estén, pues, vuestros corazones enteramente dedicados al SEÑOR nuestro Dios, para que andemos en sus estatutos y guardemos sus mandamientos, como en este día.

62 Y el rey y todo Israel con él ofrecieron sacrificios delante del SEÑOR.

63 Y Salomón ofreció como sacrificio de las ofrendas de paz, que él ofreció al SEÑOR, veintidós mil bueyes y ciento veinte mil ovejas. Así dedicaron la casa del SEÑOR el rey y todos los hijos de Israel.

64 Aquel día el rey consagró la parte central del atrio que estaba delante de la casa del SEÑOR, pues allí ofreció el holocausto, la ofrenda de cereal y la grosura de las ofrendas de paz; porque el altar de bronce que estaba delante del SEÑOR era demasiado pequeño para contener el holocausto, la ofrenda de cereal y la grosura de las ofrendas de paz.

65 Así Salomón celebró la fiesta en aquella ocasión, y todo Israel con él, una gran asamblea desde la entrada de Hamat hasta el torrente de Egipto, delante del SEÑOR nuestro Dios, por siete días y siete días más, o sea catorce días.

66 Al octavo día despidió al pueblo. Ellos bendijeron al rey, y se fueron a sus tiendas gozosos y alegres de corazón por todo el bien que el SEÑOR había mostrado a su siervo David y a su pueblo Israel.

1 Bringing all this to a climax, King Solomon called in the leaders of Israel, all the heads of the tribes and the family patriarchs, to bring up the Chest of the Covenant of God from Zion, the City of David.

2 And they came, all Israel before King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, the seventh month, for the great autumn festival.

3 With all Israel's leaders present, the priests took up the Chest of God

4 and carried up the Chest and the Tent of Meeting and all the holy vessels that went with the Tent.

5 King Solomon and the entire congregation of Israel were there at the Chest worshiping and sacrificing huge numbers of sheep and cattle - so many that no one could keep track.

6 Then the priests brought the Chest of the Covenant of God to its place in the Inner Sanctuary, the Holy of Holies, under the wings of the cherubim.

7 The outspread wings of the cherubim stretched over the Chest and its poles.

8 The poles were so long that their ends could be seen from the entrance to the Inner Sanctuary, but were not noticeable farther out. They're still there today.

9 There was nothing in the Chest but the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb where God made a covenant with Israel after bringing them up from Egypt. The Temple Finished, Dedicated, Filled

10 When the priests left the Holy Place, a cloud filled The Temple of God.

11 The priests couldn't carry out their priestly duties because of the cloud - the glory of God filled The Temple of God!

12 Then Solomon spoke: God has told us that he lives in the dark where no one can see him;

13 I've built this splendid Temple, O God, to mark your invisible presence forever.

14 The king then turned to face the congregation and blessed them:

15 "Blessed be God, the God of Israel, who spoke personally to my father David. Now he has kept the promise he made when he said,

16 'From the day I brought my people Israel from Egypt, I haven't set apart one city among the tribes of Israel to build a Temple to fix my Name there. But I did choose David to rule my people Israel.'

17 "My father David had it in his heart to build a Temple honoring the Name of God, the God of Israel.

18 But God told him 'It was good that you wanted to build a Temple in my honor - most commendable!

19 But you are not the one to do it - your son will build it to honor my Name.'

20 "God has done what he said he would do: I have succeeded David my father and ruled over Israel just as God promised; and now I've built a Temple to honor God, the God of Israel,

21 and I've secured a place for the Chest that holds the covenant of God, the covenant that he made with our ancestors when he brought them up from the land of Egypt."

22 Before the entire congregation of Israel, Solomon took a position before the Altar, spread his hands out before heaven,

23 and prayed,

24 You kept your word to David my father, your personal word. You did exactly what you promised - every detail. The proof is before us today!

25 Keep it up, God, O God of Israel! Continue to keep the promises you made to David my father when you said, "You'll always have a descendant to represent my rule on Israel's throne, on the condition that your sons are as careful to live obediently in my presence as you have."

26 God of Israel, let this all happen; confirm and establish it!

27 Can it be that God will actually move into our neighborhood? Why, the cosmos itself isn't large enough to give you breathing room, let alone this Temple I've built.

28 Even so, I'm bold to ask: Pay attention to these my prayers, both intercessory and personal, O God, my God. Listen to my prayers, energetic and devout, that I'm setting before you right now.

29 Keep your eyes open to this Temple night and day, this place of which you said, "My Name will be honored there,"

30 and listen to the prayers that I pray at this place. Listen from your home in heaven and when you hear, forgive.

31 When someone hurts a neighbor and promises to make things right, and then comes and repeats the promise before your Altar in this Temple,

32 listen from heaven and act accordingly: Judge your servants, making the offender pay for his offense and setting the offended free of any charges.

33 When your people Israel are beaten by an enemy because they've sinned against you, but then turn to you and acknowledge your rule in prayers desperate and devout in this Temple,

34 Listen from your home in heaven, forgive the sin of your people Israel, return them to the land you gave their ancestors.

35 When the skies shrivel up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, but then they pray at this place, acknowledging your rule and quitting their sins because you have scourged them,

36 isten from your home in heaven, forgive the sins of your servants, your people Israel. Then start over with them: Train them to live right and well; send rain on the land you gave your people as an inheritance.

37 When disasters strike, famine or catastrophe, crop failure or disease, locust or beetle, or when an enemy attacks their defenses - calamity of any sort

38 - any prayer that's prayed from anyone at all among your people Israel, hearts penetrated by the disaster, hands and arms thrown out to this Temple for help,

39 Listen from your home in heaven.

40 so that they'll live before you in lifelong reverent and believing obedience on this land you gave our ancestors.

41 And don't forget the foreigner who is not a member of your people Israel but has come from a far country because of your reputation.

42 People are going to be attracted here by your great reputation, your wonder-working power, who come to pray at this Temple.

43 Listen from your home in heaven. Honor the prayers of the foreigner so that people all over the world will know who you are and what you're like and will live in reverent obedience before you, just as your own people Israel do; so they'll know that you personally make this Temple that I've built what it is.

44 When your people go to war against their enemies at the time and place you send them and they pray to God toward the city you chose and this Temple I've built to honor your Name,

45 Listen from heaven to what they pray and ask for, and do what's right for them.

46 When they sin against you - and they certainly will; there's no one without sin! - and in anger you turn them over to the enemy and they are taken captive to the enemy's land, whether far or near,

47 but repent in the country of their captivity and pray with changed hearts in their exile, "We've sinned; we've done wrong; we've been most wicked,"

48 and turn back to you heart and soul in the land of the enemy who conquered them, and pray to you toward their homeland, the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you chose, and this Temple I have built to the honor of your Name,

49 isten from your home in heaven to their prayers desperate and devout and do what is best for them.

50 Forgive your people who have sinned against you; forgive their gross rebellions and move their captors to treat them with compassion.

51 They are, after all, your people and your precious inheritance whom you rescued from the heart of that iron-smelting furnace, Egypt!

52 O be alert and attentive to the needy prayers of me, your servant, and your dear people Israel; listen every time they cry out to you!

53 You handpicked them from all the peoples on earth to be your very own people, as you announced through your servant Moses when you, O God, in your masterful rule, delivered our ancestors from Egypt.

54 Having finished praying to God - all these bold and passionate prayers - Solomon stood up before God's Altar where he had been kneeling all this time, his arms stretched upward to heaven.

55 Standing, he blessed the whole congregation of Israel, blessing them at the top of his lungs:

56 "Blessed be God, who has given peace to his people Israel just as he said he'd do. Not one of all those good and wonderful words that he spoke through Moses has misfired.

57 May God, our very own God, continue to be with us just as he was with our ancestors - may he never give up and walk out on us.

58 May he keep us centered and devoted to him, following the life path he has cleared, watching the signposts, walking at the pace and rhythms he laid down for our ancestors.

59 "And let these words that I've prayed in the presence of God be always right there before him, day and night, so that he'll do what is right for me, to guarantee justice for his people Israel day after day after day.

60 Then all the people on earth will know God is the true God; there is no other God.

61 And you, your lives must be totally obedient to God, our personal God, following the life path he has cleared, alert and attentive to everything he has made plain this day."

62 The king and all Israel with him then worshiped, offering sacrifices to God.

63 Solomon offered Peace-Offerings, sacrificing to God twenty-two thousand cattle, a hundred and twenty thousand sheep. This is how the king and all Israel dedicated The Temple of God.

64 That same day, the king set apart the central area of the Courtyard in front of God's Temple for sacred use and there sacrificed the Whole-Burnt-Offerings, Grain-Offerings, and fat from the Peace-Offerings - the bronze Altar was too small to handle all these offerings.

65 This is how Solomon kept the great autumn feast, and all Israel with him, people there all the way from the far northeast (the Entrance to Hamath) to the far southwest (the Brook of Egypt) - a huge congregation. They started out celebrating for seven days - and then did it another seven days! Two solid weeks of celebration!

66 Then he dismissed them. They blessed the king and went home, exuberant with heartfelt gratitude for all the good God had done for his servant David and for his people Israel.
