1 Thessalonians 5

1 Brothers and sisters, we don't have to write to you about times and dates.
1 But, brethren, of times and moments ye need not that I write to you.
2 You know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
2 For ye yourselves know diligently, that the day of the Lord shall come, as a thief in the night.
3 People will be saying that everything is peaceful and safe. Then suddenly they will be destroyed. It will happen like birth pains coming on a pregnant woman. None of the people will escape.
3 For when they shall say peace is, and secureness, then sudden death shall come on them [+Soothly when they shall say peace and secureness, then suddenly perishing, or death, shall come to them], as sorrow to a woman that is with child, and they shall not escape.
4 Brothers and sisters, you are not in darkness. So that day should not surprise you as a thief would.
4 But, brethren, ye be not in darknesses, that that day as a thief catch you.
5 All of you are children of the light. You are children of the day. We don't belong to the night. We don't belong to the darkness.
5 For all ye be the sons of light, and sons of [the] day; we be not of night, neither of darknesses.
6 So let us not be like the others. They are asleep. Instead, let us be wide awake and in full control of ourselves.
6 Therefore sleep we not as others; but wake we, and be we sober.
7 Those who sleep, sleep at night. Those who get drunk, get drunk at night.
7 For they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they that be drunken, be drunken in the night.
8 But we belong to the day. So let us control ourselves. Let us put the armor of faith and love on our chest. Let us put on the hope of salvation like a helmet.
8 But we that be of the day, be sober, clothed in the habergeon of faith and of charity, and in the helmet of hope of health [clothed in the habergeon of faith and charity, and in the helmet, hope of health].
9 God didn't choose us to receive his anger. He chose us to receive salvation because of what our Lord Jesus Christ has done.
9 For God putted not us into wrath, but into the purchasing of health by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Jesus died for us. Some will be alive when he comes. Others will be dead. Either way, we will live together with him.
10 that was dead for us; that whether we wake, whether we sleep, we live together with him.
11 So cheer each other up with the hope you have. Build each other up. In fact, that's what you are doing.
11 For which thing comfort ye together, and edify ye each other, as ye do.
12 Brothers and sisters, we ask you to have respect for the godly leaders who work hard among you. They have authority over you. They correct you.
12 And, brethren, we pray you, that ye know them that travail among you, and be sovereigns to you, (or be before to you,) in the Lord, and teach, (or admonish,) you,
13 Have a lot of respect for them. Love them because of what they do. Live in peace with each other.
13 that ye have them more abundantly in charity; and for the work of them, have ye peace with them.
14 Brothers and sisters, we are asking you to warn those who don't want to work. Cheer up those who are shy. Help those who are weak. Put up with everyone.
14 And, brethren, we pray you, reprove unpeaceable men [reprove ye, or chastise, unquiet men]. Comfort ye men of little heart, receive ye frail men, be ye patient to all men.
15 Make sure that nobody pays back one wrong act with another. Always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else.
15 See ye, that no man yield evil for evil to any man; but evermore follow ye that that is good, each to other, (or together,) and to all men.
16 Always be joyful.
16 Evermore joy ye;
17 Never stop praying.
17 without ceasing pray ye;
18 Give thanks no matter what happens. God wants you to thank him because you believe in Christ Jesus.
18 in all things do ye thankings. For this is the will of God in Christ Jesus, in all you.
19 Don't put out the Holy Spirit's fire.
19 Do not ye quench the Spirit,
20 Don't treat prophecies as if they amount to nothing.
20 do not ye despise prophecies.
21 Put everything to the test. Hold on to what is good.
21 But prove ye all things, and hold ye that thing that is good.
22 Stay away from every kind of evil.
22 Abstain [ye] you from all evil species, (or likeness).
23 God is the God who gives peace. May he make you holy through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept free from blame. May you be without blame from now until our Lord Jesus Christ comes.
23 And God himself of peace make you holy by all things, that your spirit be kept whole, and soul, and body, without plaint, in the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 The One who has chosen you is faithful. He will do all these things.
24 God is true, that called you, which also shall do [work of grace in you].
25 Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
25 Brethren, pray ye for us.
26 Greet all the believers with a holy kiss.
26 Greet ye well all brethren in holy kiss.
27 While the Lord is watching, here is what I command you. Have this letter read to all the believers.
27 I charge you by the Lord, that this epistle be read to all holy brethren.
28 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
