1 Peter 5

CEB 1 Therefore, I have a request for the elders among you. (I ask this as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ's sufferings, and as one who shares in the glory that is about to be revealed.) I urge the elders: NRS 1 Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you CEB 2 Like shepherds, tend the flock of God among you. Watch over it. Don't shepherd because you must, but do it voluntarily for God. Don't shepherd greedily, but do it eagerly. NRS 2 to tend the flock of God that is in your charge, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion but willingly, as God would have you do it —not for sordid gain but eagerly. CEB 3 Don't shepherd by ruling over those entrusted to your care, but become examples to the flock. NRS 3 Do not lord it over those in your charge, but be examples to the flock. CEB 4 And when the chief shepherd appears, you will receive an unfading crown of glory. NRS 4 And when the chief shepherd appears, you will win the crown of glory that never fades away. CEB 5 In the same way, I urge you who are younger: accept the authority of the elders. And everyone, clothe yourselves with humility toward each other. God stands against the proud, but he gives favor to the humble. NRS 5 In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you must clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble." CEB 6 Therefore, humble yourselves under God's power so that he may raise you up in the last day. NRS 6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you in due time. CEB 7 Throw all your anxiety onto him, because he cares about you. NRS 7 Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you. CEB 8 Be clearheaded. Keep alert. Your accuser, the devil, is on the prowl like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. NRS 8 Discipline yourselves, keep alert. Like a roaring lion your adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour. CEB 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith. Do so in the knowledge that your fellow believers are enduring the same suffering throughout the world. NRS 9 Resist him, steadfast in your faith, for you know that your brothers and sisters in all the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering. CEB 10 After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, the one who called you into his eternal glory in Christ Jesus, will himself restore, empower, strengthen, and establish you. NRS 10 And after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, support, strengthen, and establish you. CEB 11 To him be power forever and always. Amen. NRS 11 To him be the power forever and ever. Amen. CEB 12 I have written and sent these few lines to you by Silvanus. I consider him to be a faithful brother. In these lines I have urged and affirmed that this is the genuine grace of God. Stand firm in it. NRS 12 Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it. CEB 13 The fellow-elect church in Babylon greets you, and so does my son Mark. NRS 13 Your sister church in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you greetings; and so does my son Mark. CEB 14 Greet each other with the kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ. NRS 14 Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.
