NAS 1 These are the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, NIV 1 These were the sons of Israel: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun, NAS 2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher. NIV 2 Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad and Asher. NAS 3 The sons of Judah were Er, Onan and Shelah; these three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanitess. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD , so He put him to death. NIV 3 The sons of Judah: Er, Onan and Shelah. These three were born to him by a Canaanite woman, the daughter of Shua. Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the LORD’s sight; so the LORD put him to death. NAS 4 Tamar his daughter-in-law bore him Perez and Zerah. Judah had five sons in all. NIV 4 Judah’s daughter-in-law Tamar bore Perez and Zerah to Judah. He had five sons in all. NAS 5 The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul. NIV 5 The sons of Perez: Hezron and Hamul. NAS 6 The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol and Dara; five of them in all. NIV 6 The sons of Zerah: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Kalkol and Darda —five in all. NAS 7 The son of Carmi was Achar, the troubler of Israel, who violated the ban. NIV 7 The son of Karmi: Achar, who brought trouble on Israel by violating the ban on taking devoted things. NAS 8 The son of Ethan was Azariah. NIV 8 The son of Ethan: Azariah. NAS 9 Now the sons of Hezron, who were born to him were Jerahmeel, Ram and Chelubai. NIV 9 The sons born to Hezron were: Jerahmeel, Ram and Caleb. NAS 10 Ram became the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab became the father of Nahshon, leader of the sons of Judah; NIV 10 Ram was the father of Amminadab, and Amminadab the father of Nahshon, the leader of the people of Judah. NAS 11 Nahshon became the father of Salma, Salma became the father of Boaz, NIV 11 Nahshon was the father of Salmon, Salmon the father of Boaz, NAS 12 Boaz became the father of Obed, and Obed became the father of Jesse; NIV 12 Boaz the father of Obed and Obed the father of Jesse. NAS 13 and Jesse became the father of Eliab his firstborn, then Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, NIV 13 Jesse was the father of Eliab his firstborn; the second son was Abinadab, the third Shimea, NAS 14 Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, NIV 14 the fourth Nethanel, the fifth Raddai, NAS 15 Ozem the sixth, David the seventh; NIV 15 the sixth Ozem and the seventh David. NAS 16 and their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. And the three sons of Zeruiah were Abshai, Joab and Asahel. NIV 16 Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah’s three sons were Abishai, Joab and Asahel. NAS 17 Abigail bore Amasa, and the father of Amasa was Jether the Ishmaelite. NIV 17 Abigail was the mother of Amasa, whose father was Jether the Ishmaelite. NAS 18 Now Caleb the son of Hezron had sons by Azubah his wife, and by Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon. NIV 18 Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah (and by Jerioth). These were her sons: Jesher, Shobab and Ardon. NAS 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. NIV 19 When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, who bore him Hur. NAS 20 Hur became the father of Uri, and Uri became the father of Bezalel. NIV 20 Hur was the father of Uri, and Uri the father of Bezalel. NAS 21 Afterward Hezron went in to the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead, whom he married when he was sixty years old; and she bore him Segub. NIV 21 Later, Hezron, when he was sixty years old, married the daughter of Makir the father of Gilead. He made love to her, and she bore him Segub. NAS 22 Segub became the father of Jair, who had twenty-three cities in the land of Gilead. NIV 22 Segub was the father of Jair, who controlled twenty-three towns in Gilead. NAS 23 But Geshur and Aram took the towns of Jair from them, with Kenath and its villages, even sixty cities. All these were the sons of Machir, the father of Gilead. NIV 23 (But Geshur and Aram captured Havvoth Jair, as well as Kenath with its surrounding settlements—sixty towns.) All these were descendants of Makir the father of Gilead. NAS 24 After the death of Hezron in Caleb-ephrathah, Abijah, Hezron's wife, bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa. NIV 24 After Hezron died in Caleb Ephrathah, Abijah the wife of Hezron bore him Ashhur the father of Tekoa. NAS 25 Now the sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron were Ram the firstborn, then Bunah, Oren, Ozem and Ahijah. NIV 25 The sons of Jerahmeel the firstborn of Hezron: Ram his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem and Ahijah. NAS 26 Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. NIV 26 Jerahmeel had another wife, whose name was Atarah; she was the mother of Onam. NAS 27 The sons of Ram, the firstborn of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin and Eker. NIV 29 Abishur’s wife was named Abihail, who bore him Ahban and Molid. NAS 30 The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim, and Seled died without sons. NIV 30 The sons of Nadab: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children. NAS 31 The son of Appaim was Ishi. And the son of Ishi was Sheshan. And the son of Sheshan was Ahlai. NIV 31 The son of Appaim: Ishi, who was the father of Sheshan. Sheshan was the father of Ahlai. NAS 32 The sons of Jada the brother of Shammai were Jether and Jonathan, and Jether died without sons. NIV 32 The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother: Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children. NAS 33 The sons of Jonathan were Peleth and Zaza. These were the sons of Jerahmeel. NIV 33 The sons of Jonathan: Peleth and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerahmeel. NAS 34 Now Sheshan had no sons, only daughters. And Sheshan had an Egyptian servant whose name was Jarha. NIV 34 Sheshan had no sons—only daughters. He had an Egyptian servant named Jarha. NAS 35 Sheshan gave his daughter to Jarha his servant in marriage, and she bore him Attai. NIV 35 Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore him Attai. NAS 36 Attai became the father of Nathan, and Nathan became the father of Zabad, NIV 36 Attai was the father of Nathan, Nathan the father of Zabad, NAS 37 and Zabad became the father of Ephlal, and Ephlal became the father of Obed, NIV 37 Zabad the father of Ephlal, Ephlal the father of Obed, NAS 38 and Obed became the father of Jehu, and Jehu became the father of Azariah, NIV 38 Obed the father of Jehu, Jehu the father of Azariah, NAS 39 and Azariah became the father of Helez, and Helez became the father of Eleasah, NIV 39 Azariah the father of Helez, Helez the father of Eleasah, NAS 40 and Eleasah became the father of Sismai, and Sismai became the father of Shallum, NIV 40 Eleasah the father of Sismai, Sismai the father of Shallum, NAS 41 and Shallum became the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah became the father of Elishama. NIV 41 Shallum the father of Jekamiah, and Jekamiah the father of Elishama. NAS 42 Now the sons of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, were Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph; and his son was Mareshah, the father of Hebron. NIV 42 The sons of Caleb the brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha his firstborn, who was the father of Ziph, and his son Mareshah, who was the father of Hebron. NAS 43 The sons of Hebron were Korah and Tappuah and Rekem and Shema. NIV 43 The sons of Hebron: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem and Shema. NAS 44 Shema became the father of Raham, the father of Jorkeam; and Rekem became the father of Shammai. NIV 44 Shema was the father of Raham, and Raham the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai. NAS 45 The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Bethzur. NIV 45 The son of Shammai was Maon, and Maon was the father of Beth Zur. NAS 46 Ephah, Caleb's concubine, bore Haran, Moza and Gazez; and Haran became the father of Gazez. NIV 46 Caleb’s concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez. NAS 47 The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph. NIV 47 The sons of Jahdai: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah and Shaaph. NAS 48 Maacah, Caleb's concubine, bore Sheber and Tirhanah. NIV 48 Caleb’s concubine Maakah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah. NAS 49 She also bore Shaaph the father of Madmannah, Sheva the father of Machbena and the father of Gibea; and the daughter of Caleb was Achsah. NIV 49 She also gave birth to Shaaph the father of Madmannah and to Sheva the father of Makbenah and Gibea. Caleb’s daughter was Aksah. NAS 50 These were the sons of Caleb. The sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephrathah, were Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim, NIV 50 These were the descendants of Caleb. The sons of Hur the firstborn of Ephrathah: Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim, NAS 51 Salma the father of Bethlehem and Hareph the father of Beth-gader. NIV 51 Salma the father of Bethlehem, and Hareph the father of Beth Gader. NAS 52 Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim had sons: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites, NIV 52 The descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath Jearim were: Haroeh, half the Manahathites, NAS 53 and the families of Kiriath-jearim: the Ithrites, the Puthites, the Shumathites and the Mishraites; from these came the Zorathites and the Eshtaolites. NIV 53 and the clans of Kiriath Jearim: the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites and Mishraites. From these descended the Zorathites and Eshtaolites. NAS 54 The sons of Salma were Bethlehem and the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites. NIV 54 The descendants of Salma: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth Beth Joab, half the Manahathites, the Zorites, NAS 55 The families of scribes who lived at Jabez were the Tirathites, the Shimeathites and the Sucathites. Those are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the house of Rechab. NIV 55 and the clans of scribes who lived at Jabez: the Tirathites, Shimeathites and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of the Rekabites.
