The Bible in Basic English BBE
1 From: Sha'ul, by God's will an emissary of the Messiah Yeshua, and brother Timothy To: God's Messianic community in Corinth, along with all God's people throughout Achaia:
1
Paul, an Apostle of Jesus Christ by the purpose of God, and Timothy the brother, to the church of God which is in Corinth, with all the saints who are in all Achaia:
2 Grace to you and shalom from God our Father and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.
2
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Praised be God, Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, compassionate Father, God of all encouragement and comfort;
3
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort;
4 who encourages us in all our trials, so that we can encourage others in whatever trials they may be undergoing with the encouragement we ourselves have received from God.
4
Who gives us comfort in all our troubles, so that we may be able to give comfort to others who are in trouble, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
5 For just as the Messiah's sufferings overflow into us, so through the Messiah our encouragement also overflows.
5
For as we undergo more of the pain which Christ underwent, so through Christ does our comfort become greater.
6 So if we undergo trials, it is for your encouragement and deliverance; and if we are encouraged, that should encourage you when you have to endure sufferings like those we are experiencing.
6
But if we are troubled, it is for your comfort and salvation; or if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which takes effect through your quiet undergoing of the same troubles which we undergo:
7 Moreover, our hope for you remains staunch, because we know that as you share in the sufferings, you will also share in the encouragement.
7
And our hope for you is certain; in the knowledge that as you take part in the troubles, so you will take part in the comfort.
8 For, brothers, we want you to know about the trials we have undergone in the province of Asia. The burden laid on us was so far beyond what we could bear that we even despaired of living through it.
8
For it is our desire that you may not be without knowledge of our trouble which came on us in Asia, that the weight of it was very great, more than our power, so that it seemed that we had no hope even of life:
9 In our hearts we felt we were under sentence of death. However, this was to get us to rely not on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead!
9
Yes, we ourselves have had the answer of death in ourselves, so that our hope might not be in ourselves, but in God who is able to give life to the dead:
10 He rescued us from such deadly peril, and he will rescue us again! The one in whom we have placed our hope will indeed continue to rescue us.
10
Who gave us salvation from so great a death: on whom we have put our hope that he will still go on to give us salvation;
11 And you must add your help by praying for us; for the more people there are praying, the more people there will be to give thanks when their prayer for us is answered.
11
You at the same time helping together by your prayer for us; so that for what has been given to us through a number of persons, praise may go up to God for us from all of them.
12 For we take pride in this: that our conscience assures us that in our dealings with the world, and especially with you, we have conducted ourselves with frankness and godly pureness of motive - not by worldly wisdom but by God-given grace.
12
For our glory is in this, in the knowledge which we have that our way of life in the world, and most of all in relation to you, has been holy and true in the eyes of God; not in the wisdom of the flesh, but in the grace of God.
13 There are no hidden meanings in our letters other than what you can read and understand; and my hope is that you will understand fully,
13
For in our letters we say no other things to you, but those which you are reading, and to which you give agreement, and, it is my hope, will go on doing so to the end:
14 as indeed you have already understood us in part; so that on the Day of our Lord Yeshua you can be as proud of us as we are of you.
14
Even as you have been ready, in part, to say that we are your glory, in the same way that you are ours, in the day of the Lord Jesus.
15 So sure was I of this that I had planned to come and see you, so that you might have the benefit of a second visit.
15
And being certain of this, it was my purpose to come to you before, so that you might have a second grace;
16 I wanted to visit you on my way to Macedonia, visit you again on my way back from Macedonia, and then have you send me on my way to Y'hudah.
16
And by way of Corinth to go into Macedonia, and from there to come back again to you, so that you might send me on my way to Judaea.
17 Did I make these plans lightly? Or do I make plans the way a worldly man does, ready to say, "Yes, yes," and "No, no," in the same breath?
17
If then I had such a purpose, did I seem to be changing suddenly? or am I guided in my purposes by the flesh, saying, Yes, today, and, No, tomorrow?
18 As surely as God is trustworthy, we don't say "Yes" when we mean "No."
18
As God is true, our word to you is not Yes and No.
19 For the Son of God, the Messiah Yeshua, who was proclaimed among you through us - that is, through me and Sila and Timothy - was not a yes-and-no man; on the contrary, with him it is always "Yes!"
19
For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we were preaching among you, even I and Silvanus and Timothy, was not Yes and No, but in him is Yes.
20 For however many promises God has made, they all find their "Yes" in connection with him; that is why it is through him that we say the "Amen" when we give glory to God.
20
For he is the Yes to all the undertakings of God: and by him all the words of God are made certain and put into effect, to the glory of God through us.
21 Moreover, it is God who sets both us and you in firm union with the Messiah; he has anointed us,
21
Now he who makes our faith strong together with you, in Christ, and has given us of his grace, is God;
22 put his seal on us, and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee for the future.
22
And it is he who has put his stamp on us, even the Spirit, as the sign in our hearts of the coming glory.
23 I call God to witness - he knows what my life is like - that the reason I held back from coming to Corinth was out of consideration for you!
23
But God is my witness that it was in pity for you that I did not come to Corinth at that time.
24 We are not trying to dictate how you must live out your trust in the Messiah, for in your trust you are standing firm. Rather, we are working with you for your own happiness.
24
Not that we have authority over your faith, but we are helpers of your joy: for it is faith which is your support.
