1 Y vino el espíritu de Dios sobre Azarías hijo de Obed;

The Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded.
2 y salió al encuentro a Asa, y le dijo: Oídme, Asa, y todo Judá y Benjamín: El SEÑOR <I>es</I> con vosotros, si vosotros fueres con él; y si le buscareis, será hallado de vosotros; mas si le dejareis, él también os dejará.

He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
3 Muchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios, y sin sacerdote, y sin enseñador, y sin ley;

For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law.
4 mas cuando con su tribulación se convirtieron al SEÑOR Dios de Israel, y le buscaron, él fue hallado de ellos.

But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them.
5 En aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba, ni para el que salía, sino muchas destrucciones sobre todos los habitadores de las tierras.

In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil.
6 Y la una gente destruía a la otra, y una ciudad a otra; porque Dios los conturbó con todas calamidades.

One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress.
7 Esforzaos pues vosotros, y no descoyunten vuestras manos; que salario hay para vuestra obra.

But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”
8 Y cuando oyó Asa las palabras y profecía de Obed profeta, fue confortado, y quitó las abominaciones de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de todas las ciudades que él había tomado en el monte de Efraín; y reparó el altar del SEÑOR que <I>estaba</I> delante del pórtico del SEÑOR.

When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD’s temple.
9 E hizo juntar a todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos los extranjeros de Efraín, y de Manasés, y de Simeón; porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado a él, viendo que el SEÑOR su Dios era con él.

Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.
10 Congregaron, <I>pues</I> , en Jerusalén en el mes tercero, a los quince años del reino de Asa.

They assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
11 Y en aquel mismo día sacrificaron al SEÑOR, de los despojos que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.

At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back.
12 Y entraron en concierto de que buscarían al SEÑOR el Dios de sus padres, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma;

They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul.
13 y que cualquiera que no buscase al SEÑOR el Dios de Israel, muriese, grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.

All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.
14 Y juraron al SEÑOR con gran voz y júbilo, a son de trompetas y de bocinas.

They took an oath to the LORD with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.
15 Del cual juramento todos los de Judá se alegraron; porque de todo su corazón lo juraban, y de toda su voluntad lo buscaban; y fue hallado de ellos; y les dio el SEÑOR reposo de todas partes.

All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.
16 Y aun a Maaca madre del rey Asa, él <I>mismo</I> la depuso que no fuese reina, porque había hecho un ídolo en el bosque; y Asa deshizo su ídolo, <I>y lo desmenuzó</I> , y lo quemó en el arroyo de Cedrón.

King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.
17 Mas con todo eso los altos no eran quitados de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto mientras vivió.

Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.
18 Y metió en la Casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él había consagrado, plata y oro y vasos.

He brought into the temple of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.
19 Y no hubo guerra hasta los treinta y cinco años del reinado de Asa.

There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.
