1 En el año treinta y seis del reinado de Asa, subió Baasa, rey de Israel, contra Judá y fortificó Ramá para prevenir que nadie saliera o entrara en ayuda de Asa, rey de Judá.

2 Entonces Asa sacó plata y oro de los tesoros de la casa del SEÑOR y de la casa del rey, y los envió a Ben-adad, rey de Aram, que habitaba en Damasco, diciendo:

3 Haya alianza entre tú y yo, como hubo entre mi padre y tu padre. He aquí, te he enviado plata y oro; ve, rompe tu alianza con Baasa, rey de Israel, para que se aparte de mí.

4 Y escuchó Ben-adad al rey Asa y envió a los jefes de sus ejércitos contra las ciudades de Israel, y conquistaron Ijón, Dan, Bel-maim y todas las ciudades de almacenaje de Neftalí.

5 Y sucedió que cuando Baasa lo oyó, dejó de fortificar Ramá, y abandonó su obra.

6 Entonces el rey Asa trajo a todo Judá, y se llevaron las piedras de Ramá y la madera con que Baasa había estado edificando, y con ellas fortificó Geba y Mizpa.

7 En aquel tiempo el vidente Hananí vino a Asa, rey de Judá, y le dijo: Por cuanto te has apoyado en el rey de Aram y no te has apoyado en el SEÑOR tu Dios, por eso el ejército del rey de Aram ha escapado de tu mano.

8 ¿No eran los etíopes y los libios un ejército numeroso con muchísimos carros y hombres de a caballo? Sin embargo, porque te apoyaste en el SEÑOR, El los entregó en tu mano.

9 Porque los ojos del SEÑOR recorren toda la tierra para fortalecer a aquellos cuyo corazón es completamente suyo. Tú has obrado neciamente en esto. Ciertamente, desde ahora habrá guerras contra ti.

10 Entonces Asa se irritó contra el vidente y lo metió en la cárcel, porque estaba enojado contra él por esto. Y por ese tiempo, Asa oprimió a algunos del pueblo.

11 Los hechos de Asa, los primeros y los postreros, he aquí, están escritos en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel.

12 En el año treinta y nueve de su reinado, Asa se enfermó de los pies. Su enfermedad era grave, pero aun en su enfermedad no buscó al SEÑOR, sino a los médicos.

13 Y Asa durmió con sus padres. Murió el año cuarenta y uno de su reinado.

14 Y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro que él había excavado para sí en la ciudad de David, y lo pusieron sobre el lecho que él había llenado de especias de varias clases, mezcladas según el arte de los perfumistas; y le encendieron una hoguera muy grande.

1 But in the thirty-sixth year of Asa's reign, Baasha king of Israel attacked. He started it by building a fort at Ramah and closing the border between Israel and Judah to keep Asa king of Judah from leaving or entering.

2 Asa took silver and gold from the treasuries of The Temple of God and the royal palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad, king of Aram who lived in Damascus, with this message:

3 "Let's make a treaty like the one between our fathers. I'm showing my good faith with this gift of silver and gold. Break your deal with Baasha king of Israel so he'll quit fighting against me."

4 Ben-Hadad went along with King Asa and sent his troops against the towns of Israel. They sacked Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim, and all the store-cities of Naphtali.

5 When Baasha got the report, he quit fortifying Ramah.

6 Then King Asa issued orders to his people in Judah to haul away the logs and stones Baasha had used in the fortification of Ramah and used them himself to fortify Geba and Mizpah.

7 Just after that, Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said, "Because you went for help to the king of Aram and didn't ask God for help, you've lost a victory over the army of the king of Aram.

8 Didn't the Ethiopians and Libyans come against you with superior forces, completely outclassing you with their chariots and cavalry? But you asked God for help and he gave you the victory.

9 God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to him. You were foolish to go for human help when you could have had God's help. Now you're in trouble - one round of war after another."

10 At that, Asa lost his temper. Angry, he put Hanani in the stocks. At the same time Asa started abusing some of the people.

12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa came down with a severe case of foot infection. He didn't ask God for help, but went instead to the doctors.

13 Then Asa died; he died in the forty-first year of his reign.

14 They buried him in a mausoleum that he had built for himself in the City of David. They laid him in a crypt full of aromatic oils and spices. Then they had a huge bonfire in his memory.
