1 Josafat y Acab<br />Josafat disfrutó de muchas riquezas y de gran estima e hizo una alianza con Acab, rey de Israel, al dar a su hijo en matrimonio a la hija de Acab.

Now Jehoshaphat had great wealth and honor, and he allied himself with Ahab by marriage.
2 Unos años más tarde fue a Samaria para visitar a Acab, quien preparó un gran banquete para él y sus funcionarios. Mataron grandes cantidades de ovejas, cabras y ganado para la fiesta. Después Acab persuadió a Josafat para que se uniera a él para recuperar Ramot de Galaad.

Some years later he went down to see Ahab in Samaria. Ahab slaughtered many sheep and cattle for him and the people with him and urged him to attack Ramoth Gilead.
3 —¿Irás conmigo contra Ramot de Galaad? —preguntó el rey Acab de Israel al rey Josafat de Judá.<br />—¡Por supuesto! —contestó Josafat—. Tú y yo somos como uno solo, y mis tropas son tus tropas. Ciertamente nos uniremos a ti en batalla.

Ahab king of Israel asked Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me against Ramoth Gilead?” Jehoshaphat replied, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; we will join you in the war.”
4 Entonces agregó:<br />—Pero primero averigüemos qué dice el Señor<br />.

But Jehoshaphat also said to the king of Israel, “First seek the counsel of the LORD.”
5 Así que el rey de Israel convocó a los profetas, cuatrocientos en total, y les preguntó:<br />—¿Debemos ir a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad, o debo desistir?<br />—¡Sí, adelante! —contestaron todos ellos—. Dios dará la victoria al rey.

So the king of Israel brought together the prophets—four hundred men—and asked them, “Shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?” “Go,” they answered, “for God will give it into the king’s hand.”
6 Pero Josafat preguntó:<br />—¿Acaso no hay también un profeta<br /> del Señor<br /> aquí? Debemos hacerle la misma pregunta.

But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no longer a prophet of the LORD here whom we can inquire of?”
7 El rey de Israel contestó a Josafat:<br />—Hay un hombre más que podría consultar al Señor<br /> por nosotros, pero lo detesto. ¡Nunca me profetiza nada bueno, solo desgracias! Se llama Micaías, hijo de Imla.<br />—¡Un rey no debería hablar de esa manera! —respondió Josafat—. Escuchemos lo que tenga que decir.

The king of Israel answered Jehoshaphat, “There is still one prophet through whom we can inquire of the LORD, but I hate him because he never prophesies anything good about me, but always bad. He is Micaiah son of Imlah.” “The king should not say such a thing,” Jehoshaphat replied.
8 De modo que el rey de Israel llamó a uno de sus funcionarios y le dijo:<br />—¡Rápido! Trae a Micaías, hijo de Imla.

So the king of Israel called one of his officials and said, “Bring Micaiah son of Imlah at once.”
9 Micaías profetiza contra Acab<br />El rey Acab de Israel y Josafat, rey de Judá, vestidos con sus vestiduras reales, estaban sentados en sus respectivos tronos en el campo de trillar que está cerca de la puerta de Samaria. Todos los profetas de Acab profetizaban allí, delante de ellos.

Dressed in their royal robes, the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah were sitting on their thrones at the threshing floor by the entrance of the gate of Samaria, with all the prophets prophesying before them.
10 Uno de los profetas llamado Sedequías, hijo de Quenaana, hizo unos cuernos de hierro y proclamó:<br />—Esto dice el Señor<br />: ¡Con estos cuernos cornearás a los arameos hasta matarlos!

Now Zedekiah son of Kenaanah had made iron horns, and he declared, “This is what the LORD says: ‘With these you will gore the Arameans until they are destroyed.’ ”
11 Todos los demás profetas estaban de acuerdo.<br />—Sí —decían—, sube a Ramot de Galaad y saldrás vencedor, porque ¡el Señor<br /> dará la victoria al rey!

All the other prophets were prophesying the same thing. “Attack Ramoth Gilead and be victorious,” they said, “for the LORD will give it into the king’s hand.”
12 Mientras tanto, el mensajero que había ido a buscar a Micaías le dijo:<br />—Mira, todos los profetas le prometen victoria al rey. Ponte tú también de acuerdo con ellos y asegúrale que saldrá vencedor.

The messenger who had gone to summon Micaiah said to him, “Look, the other prophets without exception are predicting success for the king. Let your word agree with theirs, and speak favorably.”
13 Pero Micaías respondió:<br />—Tan cierto como que el Señor<br /> vive, solo diré lo que mi Dios diga.

But Micaiah said, “As surely as the LORD lives, I can tell him only what my God says.”
14 Cuando Micaías se presentó ante el rey, Acab le preguntó:<br />—Micaías, ¿debemos ir a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad, o debo desistir?<br />Micaías le respondió con sarcasmo:<br />—¡Sí, sube y saldrás vencedor, tendrás la victoria sobre ellos!

When he arrived, the king asked him, “Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall I not?” “Attack and be victorious,” he answered, “for they will be given into your hand.”
15 Pero el rey le respondió con dureza:<br />—¿Cuántas veces tengo que exigirte que solo me digas la verdad cuando hables de parte del Señor<br />?

The king said to him, “How many times must I make you swear to tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the LORD?”
16 Entonces Micaías le dijo:<br />—En una visión, vi a todo Israel disperso por los montes, como ovejas sin pastor, y el Señor<br /> dijo: “Han matado a su amo.<br /> Envíalos a sus casas en paz”.

Then Micaiah answered, “I saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep without a shepherd, and the LORD said, ‘These people have no master. Let each one go home in peace.’ ”
17 —¿No te dije? —exclamó el rey de Israel a Josafat—. Nunca me profetiza otra cosa que desgracias.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Didn’t I tell you that he never prophesies anything good about me, but only bad?”
18 Micaías continuó diciendo:<br />—¡Escucha lo que dice el Señor<br />! Vi al Señor<br /> sentado en su trono, rodeado por todos los ejércitos del cielo, a su derecha y a su izquierda.

Micaiah continued, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne with all the multitudes of heaven standing on his right and on his left.
19 Entonces el Señor<br /> dijo: “¿Quién puede seducir al rey Acab de Israel para que vaya a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad y lo maten?”.<br />»Hubo muchas sugerencias,

And the LORD said, ‘Who will entice Ahab king of Israel into attacking Ramoth Gilead and going to his death there?’ “One suggested this, and another that.
20 hasta que finalmente un espíritu se acercó al Señor<br /> y dijo: “¡Yo puedo hacerlo!”.<br />»“¿Cómo lo harás?”, preguntó el Señor<br />.

Finally, a spirit came forward, stood before the LORD and said, ‘I will entice him.’ “ ‘By what means?’ the LORD asked.
21 »El espíritu contestó: “Saldré e inspiraré a todos los profetas de Acab para que hablen mentiras”.<br />»“Tendrás éxito —dijo el Señor<br />—, adelante, hazlo”.

“ ‘I will go and be a deceiving spirit in the mouths of all his prophets,’ he said. “ ‘You will succeed in enticing him,’ said the LORD. ‘Go and do it.’
22 »Así que, como ves, el Señor<br /> ha puesto un espíritu de mentira en la boca de tus profetas, porque el Señor<br /> ha dictado tu condena.

“So now the LORD has put a deceiving spirit in the mouths of these prophets of yours. The LORD has decreed disaster for you.”
23 Entonces Sedequías, hijo de Quenaana, se acercó a Micaías y le dio una bofetada.<br />—¿Desde cuándo el Espíritu del Señor<br /> salió de mí para hablarte a ti? —le reclamó.

Then Zedekiah son of Kenaanah went up and slapped Micaiah in the face. “Which way did the spirit from the LORD go when he went from me to speak to you?” he asked.
24 Y Micaías le contestó:<br />—¡Ya lo sabrás, cuando estés tratando de esconderte en algún cuarto secreto!

Micaiah replied, “You will find out on the day you go to hide in an inner room.”
25 «¡Arréstenlo! —ordenó el rey de Israel—. Llévenlo de regreso a Amón, el gobernador de la ciudad, y a mi hijo Joás.

The king of Israel then ordered, “Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon the ruler of the city and to Joash the king’s son,
26 Denles la siguiente orden de parte del rey: “¡Metan a este hombre en la cárcel y no le den más que pan y agua hasta que yo regrese sano y salvo de la batalla!”».

and say, ‘This is what the king says: Put this fellow in prison and give him nothing but bread and water until I return safely.’ ”
27 Pero Micaías respondió: «¡Si tú regresas a salvo, eso significará que el Señor<br /> no habló por medio de mí!». Entonces, dirigiéndose a los que estaban alrededor, agregó: «¡Todos ustedes, tomen nota de mis palabras!».

Micaiah declared, “If you ever return safely, the LORD has not spoken through me.” Then he added, “Mark my words, all you people!”
28 Muerte de Acab<br />Entonces Acab, rey de Israel, y Josafat, rey de Judá, dirigieron a sus ejércitos contra Ramot de Galaad.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead.
29 El rey de Israel dijo a Josafat: «Cuando entremos en la batalla, yo me disfrazaré para que nadie me reconozca, pero tú ponte tus vestiduras reales». Así que el rey de Israel se disfrazó, y ambos entraron en la batalla.

The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “I will enter the battle in disguise, but you wear your royal robes.” So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle.
30 A su vez, el rey de Aram había dado las siguientes órdenes a sus comandantes de carros de guerra: «Ataquen sólo al rey de Israel. ¡No pierdan tiempo con nadie más!».

Now the king of Aram had ordered his chariot commanders, “Do not fight with anyone, small or great, except the king of Israel.”
31 Entonces, cuando los comandantes arameos de los carros vieron a Josafat en sus vestiduras reales, comenzaron a perseguirlo. «¡Allí está el rey de Israel!», gritaban; pero Josafat clamó, y el Señor<br /> lo rescató. Dios lo ayudó, apartando a sus atacantes de él.

When the chariot commanders saw Jehoshaphat, they thought, “This is the king of Israel.” So they turned to attack him, but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him. God drew them away from him,
32 Tan pronto como los comandantes de los carros se dieron cuenta de que no era el rey de Israel, dejaron de perseguirlo.

for when the chariot commanders saw that he was not the king of Israel, they stopped pursuing him.
33 Sin embargo, un soldado arameo disparó una flecha al azar hacia las tropas israelitas e hirió al rey de Israel entre las uniones de su armadura. «¡Da la vuelta<br /> y sácame de aquí! —dijo Acab entre quejas y gemidos al conductor del carro—. ¡Estoy gravemente herido!».

But someone drew his bow at random and hit the king of Israel between the breastplate and the scale armor. The king told the chariot driver, “Wheel around and get me out of the fighting. I’ve been wounded.”
34 La encarnizada batalla se prolongó todo ese día, y el rey de Israel se mantuvo erguido en su carro frente a los arameos. Por la tarde, justo cuando se ponía el sol, Acab murió.

All day long the battle raged, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. Then at sunset he died.
