1 Y Salomón decidió edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR, y un palacio real para sí.

2 Y designó Salomón setenta mil hombres para llevar cargas, ochenta mil para labrar piedra en los montes y tres mil seiscientos para dirigirlos.

3 Entonces Salomón envió un mensaje a Hiram, rey de Tiro, diciendo: Haz conmigo como hiciste con mi padre David, enviándole cedros para edificarle una casa donde habitar.

4 He aquí, voy a edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR mi Dios, para consagrársela, para quemar incienso aromático delante de El, para colocar continuamente el pan de la proposición y para ofrecer holocaustos por la mañana y por la tarde, en los días de reposo, en las lunas nuevas y en las fiestas señaladas del SEÑOR nuestro Dios; esto será ordenanza perpetua en Israel.

5 Y la casa que voy a edificar será grande; porque nuestro Dios es grande, más que todos los dioses.

6 Pero ¿quién será capaz de edificarle una casa, cuando los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no pueden contenerle? ¿Quién soy yo para que le edifique una casa, aunque sólo sea para quemar incienso delante de El?

7 Ahora pues, envíame un hombre diestro para trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, y en material de púrpura, carmesí y violeta, y que sepa hacer grabados, para trabajar con los expertos que tengo en Judá y en Jerusalén, los cuales mi padre David proveyó.

8 Envíame también del Líbano madera de cedro, ciprés y sándalo, porque yo sé que tus siervos saben cortar la madera del Líbano; y he aquí, mis siervos trabajarán con tus siervos,

9 para que me preparen madera en abundancia, porque la casa que voy a edificar será grande y maravillosa.

10 Y he aquí, daré a tus siervos, los trabajadores que cortan la madera, veinte mil coros de trigo en grano, y veinte mil coros de cebada, y veinte mil batos de vino, y veinte mil batos de aceite.

11 Entonces Hiram, rey de Tiro, respondió en una carta que envió a Salomón: Por cuanto el SEÑOR ama a su pueblo, te ha hecho rey sobre ellos.

12 Y añadió Hiram: Bendito sea el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, que ha hecho los cielos y la tierra, que ha dado al rey David un hijo sabio, dotado de prudencia y entendimiento, que edificará una casa para el SEÑOR y un palacio real para sí.

13 Y ahora envío a Hiram-abí, hombre hábil, dotado de entendimiento,

14 hijo de una mujer de las hijas de Dan y cuyo padre es de Tiro, el cual sabe trabajar en oro, en plata, en bronce, en hierro, en piedra, en madera y en material de púrpura, violeta, lino y carmesí, y sabe hacer toda clase de grabados y cualquier diseño que se le asigne, para trabajar con tus expertos y con los expertos de mi señor David, tu padre.

15 Ahora pues, envíe mi señor a sus siervos el trigo, la cebada, el aceite y el vino, de los cuales ha hablado.

16 Y nosotros cortaremos toda la madera que necesites del Líbano, te la traeremos en balsas por el mar hasta Jope y tú la harás llevar a Jerusalén.

17 Y contó Salomón todos los extranjeros que estaban en la tierra de Israel, después del censo que su padre David había tomado; y se hallaron ciento cincuenta y tres mil seiscientos.

18 Puso setenta mil de ellos a llevar cargas, ochenta mil a labrar piedras en los montes y tres mil seiscientos como capataces para hacer trabajar al pueblo.

1 Solomon gave orders to begin construction on the house of worship in honor of God and a palace for himself.

2 Solomon assigned 70,000 common laborers, 80,000 to work the quarries in the mountains, and 3,600 foremen to manage the workforce.

3 Then Solomon sent this message to King Hiram of Tyre: "Send me cedar logs, the same kind you sent David my father for building his palace.

4 I'm about to build a house of worship in honor of God, a holy place for burning perfumed incense, for setting out holy bread, for making Whole-Burnt-Offerings at morning and evening worship, and for Sabbath, New Moon, and Holy Day services of worship - the acts of worship required of Israel.

5 "The house I am building has to be the best, for our God is the best, far better than competing gods.

6 But who is capable of building such a structure? Why, the skies - the entire cosmos! - can't begin to contain him. And me, who am I to think I can build a house adequate for God - burning incense to him is about all I'm good for!

7 I need your help: Send me a master artisan in gold, silver, bronze, iron, textiles of purple, crimson, and violet, and who knows the craft of engraving; he will supervise the trained craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem that my father provided.

8 Also send cedar, cypress, and algum logs from Lebanon; I know you have lumberjacks experienced in the Lebanon forests. I'll send workers to join your crews

9 to cut plenty of timber - I'm going to need a lot, for this house I'm building is going to be absolutely stunning - a showcase temple!

10 I'll provide all the food necessary for your crew of lumberjacks and loggers: 130,000 bushels of wheat, 120,000 gallons of wine, and 120,000 gallons of olive oil."

11 Hiram king of Tyre wrote Solomon in reply: "It's plain that God loves his people - he made you king over them!"

12 He wrote on, "Blessed be the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, and who gave King David a son so wise, so knowledgeable and shrewd, to build a temple for God and a palace for himself.

13 I've sent you Huram-Abi - he's already on his way - he knows the construction business inside and out.

14 His mother is from Dan and his father from Tyre. He knows how to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, in purple, violet, linen, and crimson textiles; he is also an expert engraver and competent to work out designs with your artists and architects, and those of my master David, your father.

15 "Go ahead and send the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine you promised for my work crews.

16 We'll log the trees you need from the Lebanon forests and raft them down to Joppa. You'll have to get the timber up to Jerusalem yourself."

17 Solomon then took a census of all the foreigners living in Israel, using the same census-taking method employed by his father. They numbered 153,600.

18 He assigned 70,000 of them as common laborers, 80,000 to work the quarries in the mountains, and 3,600 as foremen to manage the work crews.
