1 Entonces Josías celebró la Pascua al SEÑOR en Jerusalén, y mataron los animales de la Pascua el día catorce del mes primero.

2 Y puso a los sacerdotes en sus oficios y los animó al servicio de la casa del SEÑOR.

3 También dijo a los levitas que enseñaban a todo Israel y que estaban consagrados al SEÑOR: Poned el arca santa en la casa que edificó Salomón, hijo de David, rey de Israel; no será más una carga sobre vuestros hombros. Ahora servid al SEÑOR vuestro Dios y a su pueblo Israel.

4 Y preparaos según vuestras casas paternas en vuestras clases, conforme a lo escrito por David, rey de Israel, y conforme a lo escrito por su hijo Salomón.

5 Además, estad en el lugar santo conforme a las secciones de las casas paternas de vuestros hermanos, los hijos del pueblo, y conforme a los levitas, según la división de una casa paterna.

6 Ahora pues, matad los animales de la Pascua, santificaos y haced las preparaciones para que vuestros hermanos hagan conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR dada por Moisés.

7 Y Josías contribuyó para los hijos del pueblo, para todos los que estaban presentes, rebaños de corderos y cabritos en número de treinta mil, más tres mil bueyes, todo para las ofrendas de la Pascua; todo ello de las posesiones del rey.

8 También sus jefes contribuyeron con una ofrenda voluntaria al pueblo, a los sacerdotes y a los levitas. Hilcías, Zacarías y Jehiel, oficiales de la casa de Dios, dieron a los sacerdotes dos mil seiscientas ovejas y trescientos bueyes para las ofrendas de la Pascua.

9 Asimismo Conanías, y Semaías y Natanael sus hermanos, y Hasabías, Jeiel y Josabad, jefes de los levitas, contribuyeron para los levitas cinco mil ovejas y quinientos bueyes para las ofrendas de la Pascua.

10 Así fue preparado el servicio; los sacerdotes se colocaron en sus puestos y los levitas según sus clases, conforme al mandato del rey.

11 Y los levitas mataron los animales de la Pascua, y mientras los sacerdotes rociaban la sangre recibida de la mano de ellos, los levitas los desollaban.

12 Entonces quitaron los holocaustos para dárselos a las secciones de las casas paternas de los hijos del pueblo, para que los presentaran al SEÑOR, como está escrito en el libro de Moisés. Hicieron esto también con los bueyes.

13 Y asaron los animales de la Pascua sobre el fuego conforme a la ordenanza, y cocieron las cosas consagradas en calderos, ollas y sartenes, y las llevaron rápidamente a todos los hijos del pueblo.

14 Después hicieron las preparaciones, para sí y para los sacerdotes, porque los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón, estuvieron ofreciendo los holocaustos y la grosura hasta la noche; por eso los levitas prepararon para sí y para los sacerdotes, hijos de Aarón.

15 También los cantores, los hijos de Asaf, estaban en sus puestos conforme a lo ordenado por David, Asaf, Hemán, y Jedutún, vidente del rey; y los porteros en cada puerta no tenían que apartarse de su servicio, porque sus hermanos los levitas preparaban para ellos.

16 Así se preparó todo el servicio del SEÑOR en aquel día para celebrar la Pascua y para ofrecer holocaustos sobre el altar del SEÑOR, conforme al mandato del rey Josías.

17 Y los hijos de Israel que estaban presentes celebraron la Pascua en ese tiempo, y la fiesta de los panes sin levadura por siete días.

18 No se había celebrado una Pascua como ésta en Israel desde los días del profeta Samuel; tampoco ninguno de los reyes de Israel había celebrado una Pascua como la que celebró Josías con los sacerdotes, los levitas y todos los de Judá e Israel que estaban presentes, y los habitantes de Jerusalén.

19 Esta Pascua se celebró en el año dieciocho del reinado de Josías.

20 Después de todo esto, cuando Josías había reparado el templo, Necao, rey de Egipto, subió para combatir en Carquemis junto al Eufrates, y Josías salió para enfrentarse a él.

21 Pero él le envió mensajeros, diciendo: ¿Qué tenemos que ver el uno con el otro, oh rey de Judá? No vengo hoy contra ti, sino contra la casa con la que estoy en guerra, y Dios me ha ordenado que me apresure. Por tu propio bien, deja de oponerte a Dios, que está conmigo, para que El no te destruya.

22 Sin embargo, Josías no quiso retirarse de él, sino que se disfrazó para combatir contra él; tampoco escuchó las palabras de Necao que venían de boca de Dios, sino que vino a entablar batalla en la llanura de Meguido.

23 Y los arqueros hirieron al rey Josías, y el rey dijo a sus siervos: Llevadme, porque estoy gravemente herido.

24 Sus siervos lo sacaron del carro y lo llevaron en el segundo carro que él tenía, y lo trajeron a Jerusalén donde murió, y fue sepultado en los sepulcros de sus padres. Y todo Judá y Jerusalén hicieron duelo por Josías.

25 Entonces Jeremías entonó una elegía por Josías. Y todos los cantores y cantoras en sus lamentaciones hablan de Josías hasta hoy. Y las establecieron como ordenanza en Israel; he aquí, también están escritas en las Lamentaciones.

1 Josiah celebrated the Passover to God in Jerusalem. They killed the Passover lambs on the fourteenth day of the first month. By popular choice, Jehoahaz son of Josiah was made king at Jerusalem, succeeding his father.

2 He gave the priests detailed instructions and encouraged them in the work of leading worship in The Temple of God.

3 He also told the Levites who were in charge of teaching and guiding Israel in all matters of worship (they were especially consecrated for this), "Place the sacred Chest in The Temple that Solomon son of David, the king of Israel, built. You don't have to carry it around on your shoulders any longer! Serve God and God's people Israel.

4 Organize yourselves by families for your respective responsibilities, following the instructions left by David king of Israel and Solomon his son.

5 "Take your place in the sanctuary - a team of Levites for every grouping of your fellow citizens, the laity.

6 Your job is to kill the Passover lambs, then consecrate yourselves and prepare the lambs so that everyone will be able to keep the Passover exactly as God commanded through Moses."

7 Josiah personally donated 30,000 sheep, lambs, and goats and 3,000 bulls - everything needed for the Passover celebration was there.

8 His officials also pitched in on behalf of the people, including the priests and the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, leaders in The Temple of God, gave 2,600 lambs and 300 bulls to the priests for the Passover offerings.

9 Conaniah, his brothers Shemaiah and Nethanel, along with the Levitical chiefs Hashabiah, Jeiel, and Jozabad, donated 5,000 lambs and 500 bulls to the Levites for the Passover offerings.

10 Preparations were complete for the service of worship; the priests took up their positions and the Levites were at their posts as instructed by the king.

11 They killed the Passover lambs, and while the priests sprinkled the blood from the lambs, the Levites skinned them out.

12 Then they set aside the Whole-Burnt-Offering for presentation to the family groupings of the people so that each group could offer it to God following the instructions in the Book of Moses. They did the same with the cattle.

13 They roasted the Passover lamb according to the instructions and boiled the consecrated offerings in pots and kettles and pans and promptly served the people.

14 After the people had eaten the holy meal, the Levites served themselves and the Aaronite priests - the priests were busy late into the night making the offerings at the Altar.

15 The Asaph singers were all in their places following the instructions of David, Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun the king's seer. The security guards were on duty at each gate - the Levites also served them because they couldn't leave their posts.

16 Everything went without a hitch in the worship of God that day as they celebrated the Passover and the offering of the Whole-Burnt-Offering on the Altar of God. It went just as Josiah had ordered.

17 The Israelites celebrated the Passover, also known as the Feast of Unraised Bread, for seven days.

18 The Passover hadn't been celebrated like this since the days of Samuel the prophet. None of the kings had done it. But Josiah, the priests, the Levites, all Judah and Israel who were there that week, plus the citizens of Jerusalem - they did it.

19 In the eighteenth year of the rule of King Josiah, this Passover was celebrated.

20 Some time later, after Josiah's reformation of The Temple, Neco king of Egypt marched out toward Carchemish on the Euphrates River on his way to war. Josiah went out to fight him.

21 Neco sent messengers to Josiah saying, "What do we have against each other, O king of Judah? I haven't come to fight against you but against the country with whom I'm at war. God commanded me to hurry, so don't get in my way; you'll only interfere with God, who is on my side in this, and he'll destroy you."

22 But Josiah was spoiling for a fight and wouldn't listen to a thing Neco said (in actuality it was God who said it). Though King Josiah disguised himself when they met on the plain of Megiddo,

23 archers shot him anyway. The king said to his servants, "Get me out of here - I'm badly wounded."

24 So his servants took him out of his chariot and laid him down in an ambulance chariot and drove him back to Jerusalem. He died there and was buried in the family cemetery. Everybody in Judah and Jerusalem attended the funeral.

25 Jeremiah composed an anthem of lament for Josiah. The anthem is still sung by the choirs of Israel to this day. The anthem is written in the Laments.
