1 Entonces Salomón dijo: El SEÑOR ha dicho que El moraría en la densa nube.

2 Yo, pues, te he edificado una casa majestuosa, un lugar donde mores para siempre.

3 Después el rey se volvió y bendijo a toda la asamblea de Israel, mientras toda la asamblea de Israel estaba de pie,

4 y dijo: Bendito sea el SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, que habló por su boca a mi padre David y por su mano lo ha cumplido, cuando dijo:

5 "Desde el día en que saqué a mi pueblo de la tierra de Egipto, no escogí ninguna ciudad de entre todas las tribus de Israel en la cual edificar una casa para que estuviera allí mi nombre, ni escogí a hombre alguno por príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel;

6 mas escogí a Jerusalén para que mi nombre estuviera allí, y escogí a David para que estuviera sobre mi pueblo Israel."

7 Y mi padre David tuvo en su corazón edificar una casa al nombre del SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

8 Pero el SEÑOR dijo a mi padre David: "Por cuanto tuviste en tu corazón edificar una casa a mi nombre, bien hiciste en desearlo en tu corazón.

9 "Sin embargo, tú no edificarás la casa, sino que tu hijo que te nacerá, él edificará la casa a mi nombre."

10 Ahora el SEÑOR ha cumplido la palabra que había dicho; pues yo me he levantado en lugar de mi padre David y me he sentado en el trono de Israel, como el SEÑOR prometió, y he edificado la casa al nombre del SEÑOR, Dios de Israel.

11 Y he puesto allí el arca, en la cual está el pacto que el SEÑOR hizo con los hijos de Israel.

12 Entonces Salomón se puso delante del altar del SEÑOR en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel y extendió las manos.

13 Porque Salomón había hecho un estrado de bronce de cinco codos de largo, cinco codos de ancho y tres codos de alto, y lo había puesto en medio del atrio; se puso sobre él, se hincó de rodillas en presencia de toda la asamblea de Israel y extendiendo las manos al cielo,

14 dijo: Oh SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, no hay Dios como tú ni en el cielo ni en la tierra, que guardas el pacto y muestras misericordia a tus siervos que andan delante de ti con todo su corazón;

15 que has cumplido con tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste; ciertamente has hablado con tu boca y lo has cumplido con tu mano, como sucede hoy.

16 Ahora pues, oh SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, cumple con tu siervo David mi padre lo que le prometiste, diciendo: "No te faltará quién se siente en el trono de Israel, con tal que tus hijos guarden sus caminos para andar en mi ley como tú has andado delante de mí."

17 Ahora pues, oh SEÑOR, Dios de Israel, que se cumpla la palabra que hablaste a tu siervo David.

18 Pero, ¿morará verdaderamente Dios con los hombres en la tierra? He aquí, los cielos y los cielos de los cielos no te pueden contener, cuánto menos esta casa que yo he edificado.

22 Si alguno peca contra su prójimo, y se le exige juramento, y viene y jura delante de tu altar en esta casa,

23 escucha tú desde los cielos y obra y juzga a tus siervos, castigando al impío, haciendo recaer su conducta sobre su cabeza, y justificando al justo dándole conforme a su justicia.

24 Y si tu pueblo Israel es derrotado delante del enemigo por haber pecado contra ti, y se vuelven a ti y confiesan tu nombre, y oran y hacen súplica delante de ti en esta casa,

25 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tu pueblo Israel, y hazlos volver a la tierra que diste a ellos y a sus padres.

26 Cuando los cielos estén cerrados y no haya lluvia por haber ellos pecado contra ti, y oren hacia este lugar y confiesen tu nombre, y se vuelvan de su pecado cuando tú los aflijas,

27 escucha tú desde los cielos y perdona el pecado de tus siervos y de tu pueblo Israel; sí, enséñales el buen camino por el que deben andar, y envía lluvia sobre tu tierra, la que diste a tu pueblo por heredad.

28 Si hay hambre en la tierra, si hay pestilencia, si hay tizón o añublo, langosta o saltamontes, si sus enemigos los sitian en la tierra de sus ciudades , cualquier plaga o cualquier enfermedad que haya,

29 toda oración o toda súplica que sea hecha por cualquier hombre o por todo tu pueblo Israel, conociendo cada cual su aflicción y su dolor, y extendiendo sus manos hacia esta casa,

30 escucha tú desde los cielos, el lugar de tu morada, y perdona y da a cada uno conforme a todos sus caminos, ya que conoces su corazón (porque sólo tú conoces el corazón de los hijos de los hombres),

31 para que te teman y anden en tus caminos todos los días que vivan sobre la faz de la tierra que diste a nuestros padres.

32 También en cuanto al extranjero que no es de tu pueblo Israel, cuando venga de una tierra lejana a causa de tu gran nombre y de tu mano poderosa y de tu brazo extendido, cuando ellos vengan a orar a esta casa,

33 escucha tú desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, y haz conforme a todo lo que el extranjero te pida, para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan tu nombre, para que te teman, como te teme tu pueblo Israel, y para que sepan que tu nombre es invocado sobre esta casa que he edificado.

34 Cuando salga tu pueblo a la batalla contra sus enemigos, por cualquier camino que los envíes, y oren a ti vueltos hacia esta ciudad que has escogido, y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre,

35 escucha desde los cielos su oración y su súplica, y hazles justicia.

36 Cuando pequen contra ti (pues no hay hombre que no peque) y estés airado contra ellos, y los entregues delante del enemigo, y éstos los lleven cautivos a una tierra, lejana o cercana,

37 si recapacitan en la tierra adonde hayan sido llevados cautivos, y se arrepienten y te suplican en la tierra de su cautiverio, diciendo: "Hemos pecado, hemos cometido iniquidad y hemos obrado perversamente";

38 si se vuelven a ti con todo su corazón y con toda su alma en la tierra de su cautiverio adonde hayan sido llevados cautivos, y oran vueltos hacia la tierra que diste a sus padres, hacia la ciudad que has escogido y hacia la casa que he edificado a tu nombre,

39 escucha tú desde los cielos, desde el lugar de tu morada, su oración y sus súplicas, hazles justicia y perdona a tu pueblo que ha pecado contra ti.

40 Ahora, oh Dios mío, te ruego que tus ojos estén abiertos y tus oídos atentos a la oración elevada en este lugar.

41 Ahora pues, levántate, oh SEÑOR Dios, hacia tu reposo, tú y el arca de tu poder; que tus sacerdotes, oh SEÑOR Dios, se revistan de salvación y tus santos se regocijen en lo que es bueno.

42 Oh SEÑOR Dios, no rechaces el rostro de tu ungido; acuérdate de tus misericordias para con tu siervo David.

The Message Bible MSG

1 Then Solomon said, God said he would dwell in a cloud,

2 But I've built a temple most splendid, A place for you to live in forever.

3 The king then turned to face the congregation that had come together and blessed them:

4 "Blessed be God, the God of Israel, who spoke personally to my father David. Now he has done what he promised when he said,

5 'From the day I brought my people Israel up from Egypt, I haven't set apart one city among the tribes of Israel in which to build a temple to honor my Name, or chosen one person to be the leader.

6 But now I have chosen both a city and a person: Jerusalem for honoring my Name and David to lead my people Israel.'

7 "My father David very much wanted to build a temple honoring the Name of God, the God of Israel,

8 but God told him, 'It was good that you wanted to build a temple in my honor - most commendable!

9 But you are not the one to do it. Your son, who will carry on your dynasty, will build it for my Name.'

10 "And now you see the promise completed. God has done what he said he would do; I have succeeded David my father and now rule Israel; and I have built a temple to honor God, the God of Israel,

11 and have secured a place for the Chest that holds the Covenant of God, the covenant he made with the people of Israel."

12 Before the entire congregation of Israel, Solomon took his position at the Altar of God and stretched out his hands.

13 Solomon had made a bronze dais seven and a half feet square and four and a half feet high and placed it inside the court; that's where he now stood. Then he knelt in full view of the whole congregation, stretched his hands to heaven,

14 and prayed:

15 You kept your word to David my father, your promise. You did exactly what you promised - every detail. The proof is before us today!

16 Keep it up, God, O God of Israel! Continue to keep the promises you made to David my father when you said, "You'll always have a descendant to represent my rule on Israel's throne, on the one condition that your sons are as careful to live obediently in my presence as you have."

17 O God, God of Israel, let this all happen - confirm and establish it!

18 Can it be that God will actually move into our neighborhood? Why, the cosmos itself isn't large enough to give you breathing room, let alone this Temple I've built.

19 Even so, I'm bold to ask: Pay attention to these my prayers, both intercessory and personal, O God, my God. Listen to my prayers, energetic and devout, that I'm setting before you right now.

20 Keep your eyes open to this Temple day and night, this place you promised to dignify with your Name. And listen to the prayers that I pray in this place.

21 And listen to your people Israel when they pray at this place. Listen from your home in heaven and when you hear, forgive.

22 When someone hurts a neighbor and promises to make things right, and then comes and repeats the promise before your Altar in this Temple,

23 Listen from heaven and act; judge your servants, making the offender pay for the offense And set the offended free, dismissing all charges.

24 When your people Israel are beaten by an enemy because they've sinned against you, but then turn to you and acknowledge your rule in prayers desperate and devout in this Temple,

25 Listen from your home in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, return them to the land you gave to them and their ancestors.

26 When the skies shrivel up and there is no rain because your people have sinned against you, but then they pray at this place, acknowledging your rule and quit their sins because you have scourged them,

27 Listen from your home in heaven, forgive the sins of your servants, your people Israel. Then start over with them; train them to live right and well; Send rain on the land you gave as inheritance to your people.

28 When disasters strike, famine or catastrophe, crop failure or disease, locust or beetle, or when an enemy attacks their defenses - calamity of any sort -

29 any prayer that's prayed from anyone at all among your people Israel, their hearts penetrated by disaster, hands and arms thrown out for help to this Temple,

30 Listen from your home in heaven, forgive and reward us: reward each life and circumstance, For you know each life from the inside, (you're the only one with such inside knowledge!),

31 So they'll live before you in lifelong reverence and believing obedience on this land you gave our ancestors.

32 And don't forget the foreigner who is not a member of your people Israel but has come from a far country because of your reputation - people are going to be attracted here by your great reputation, your wonderworking power - and who come to pray to this Temple.

33 Listen from your home in heaven and honor the prayers of the foreigner, So that people all over the world will know who you are and what you're like, And live in reverent obedience before you, just as your own people Israel do, So they'll know that you personally make this Temple that I've built what it is.

34 When your people go to war against their enemies at the time and place you send them and they pray to God toward the city you chose and The Temple I've built to honor your Name,

35 Listen from heaven to what they pray and ask for and do what is right for them.

36 When they sin against you - and they certainly will; there's no one without sin! - and in anger you turn them over to the enemy and they are taken off captive to the enemy's land, whether far or near,

37 but then repent in the country of their captivity and pray with changed hearts in their exile, "We've sinned; we've done wrong; we've been most wicked,"

38 and they turn back to you heart and soul in the land of the enemy who conquered them, and pray to you toward their homeland, the land you gave their ancestors, toward the city you chose, and this Temple I have built to the honor of your Name,

39 Listen from your home in heaven to their prayers desperate and devout; Do what is best for them. Forgive your people who have sinned against you.

40 And now, dear God, be alert and attentive to prayer, all prayer, offered in this place.

41 Up, God, enjoy your new place of quiet repose, you and your mighty covenant Chest; Dress your priests up in salvation clothes, let your holy people celebrate goodness.

42 And don't, God, back out on your anointed ones, keep in mind the love promised to David your servant.
